Anyone out there ever convert a F4-4cyl. from an generator to alternator. I use the jeep to plow and the generator is fried. The alternator is a 12v Delco single wire with separate field wire. Were trying to figire out how to control the field voltage and to excite the alternator. Any help is appreciate.

    Thanks :)

We've had a number of threads out there about this. We've got the alternator to do the same thing and just need someone to make a braket for us. We got all the information here.

A few years ago, I had a bracket made for an old ford tractor. I took some poster board and cut out the bracket shape that I wanted and took it to our local machine shop & welder. He cut one out of scrape sheet iron. Not really good looking but it worked.

I have also seen some on board such as this site.

To use a new G.M. alternator, it should be relatively simple. Just route the main power wire+,And- and then just add a wire from the ignition source to excite the field. It has an internal voltage regulator. Just might have a problem if you have a 6 volt system now

I used the A-200 bracket from them to mount mine on my L-134. Should be the same setup on an F-134. If you are still running the old-style wide belt you will need the A-203 pulley and special nut. It all lined up pretty well, except on accelleration my fan flades made contact with the pulley nut on the alternator, so I just bent the blades ever so slightly to solve that issue.

On another issue, I've got a cool little setup for the charge indicator. I'm going to replace the high-beam indicator on my '2A with a bi-color LED so that the high beams light the green side and the charge indicator will light the red side. Both LEDs are inside the same little bezel that fits in the dash hole where the original high beam indicator went. Cool, huh?

    Peter/Beth, I found this a while back: http://www.film.queensu.ca/cJ3B/alternator.html
Look towards the bottom of the page. I ordered the bracket, but have yet
to install it. I haven't made the switch over yet. It was kind of expensive,
but w/ the sketch you could have one made up. It was $40 including the
pully for the alternator and s&h. The were very quick getting to out to me.

Converted my CJ several years ago and used the bracket from Willys Works in AZ. Around $40 it bolts right up, some mod to the upper support arm is needed. I used a "one wire" alternator it's been working great since then. Did not hook up wire to light I just check my ammeter to watch the charge level.
