I was about to order a 79CJ FSM until I started asking questing concerning the cover and binder it seems they don’t come with one, at least not like one would think. I understand that they are reprints, but I do feel for the $70 to $85 a pop it should come with a binder and cover. Bishko was the only company I spoke with that said they do have a wire binder and a coated cover which would guard against grease prints. I have also talked to Staples about binders and they don’t make them for anything over 200 pages (FSM 1068 pg). The other thought was a CD Rom for $50. Does anyone have a Bishko FSM or a FSM from another company that could let me know about its quality? What are your thought about the CD? Thanks in advance for your help.

the originals were soft covers FYI, no binders or covers, took a heavy toll on them
and all models for 1979 are included, not just CJs
you might try Faxon's here in Riverside

As my FSM is 370 pgs, and as it becomes more shopworn, I plan on punching holes in it and putting it in a binder with index tabs.
I thought I might run the fence toward the blade on my table saw, take off about 1/16" of the spine. There is 1 & 1/4" margin on the left of the text, so there is plenty of room for the holes
Same for my Parts List. Its getting a little beat up too.

You may be able to get an original softbound manual from www.books4cars.com or from www.alibris.com . I have the reprint - I bought a binder from Staples. If you end up with the reprint, you could have it spiral or velo bound at Kinkos.

Tell me which pages you need Chuck, and I'll shoot-and-post, or send you photocopies. The '77 manual should be close enough.

    Thanks for the replies.

Jim, I will give Faxon a call Monday.

Maxx, the table saw will do the trick, but most reprints come with the 3 holes already in them.

Tim, I tried books4cars web site and they have a manual for $69.95, but it doesn’t indicate if it’s a original or reprint, I will call Monday. I also checked alibris without luck, although you have some good ideas concerning Staples and Kinkos.

Thanks for your offer to send photocopies, but at this time I’m not in need of any particular pages I would just like to have a FSM for when those times do come.

Having went to the car show yesterday I did get a chance to talk to a few vendors and one said that he may have a copy of the original 79 FSM, I gave him my # and he will check when he gets back home (NJ).

Did the original 79 FSM come in 3 editions?

    I may have one
    I'll look around
if I do, it will be very shop worn

I called books4cars and they didn’t have any of the 79 original FSM, but Faxon did for $79. plus $5. shipping. I still plan of waiting for a return call from the vendor in N.J. just to check his pricing.

I received my 79 original FSM from Faxon. It was in good condition. When I first called I was told the price was $79, but when I called the second time to order I talked to another sales person and he said the price was $89. They honored the first price.
Thanks again for the help in finding me an original FSM.
