my plans are to keep my f-head, keep the 5.38 gears, and run 33x10.5 inch tires on a 2.5 spring lift. Powr-lok rear and maybe front. do you think the f-head will be able to move it ok? not looking to go fast just town and trail driving. Thanks, Geoffrey.

That's what I have, as do a bunch of us here. It'll work, definitely maximum tire size you'll want to use. Just be careful with the clutch as it'll take a bit to get them rolling.

I have 33x12.50 pro comp mt's on my 62 with the F head and t 90, and 5.38's It does pretty well here in Ohio, but allot of the roads I run are pretty flat. They do suck allot of power out of the F head though. I do most of my wheeling in 2 low, as I'm pretty easy on the skinny pedal.

I don't think I would worry about the rear power lok until you get it running good, you might be surprised how well it goes off road with open diff's

I run stock springs 1 3/4" con fer shackles.

I have almost that same setup. 33 10.5 on 8" rim. I decided on the 3" Black Diamond Lift. I love the way it looks, and it's excellent off-road. I have a lockright in the rear and will have a TruTrac in the front when I get around to doing the open knuckle drum 30 swap. What it really needs though, is a T90C with it's lower first gear. Or a T98 if I can find one that's in my budget. (cheap!) As mentioned above, takes some clutch work to get it going in high range.

My question is - why go 33s? For appearance? From what's I read above, you'll have better performance with shorter tires. A little more power may be more helpful on the trail than the few extra inches of height.

Why not go with something like 30x9.5-15 KM2s, on 7" rims? Those would look fine. You won't be limited by the tires, definitely. Go ahead and buy your tires and wheels, and run them with the factory springs. Then upgrade the springs when you can.

Over all mine did the best with 31x10.50's And I might go back to that size if these pro comp's ever wear out. But it goes like a tank with the 33's off road. I never had any issues with the clutch,

31x10.50 works great for me without a lift kit. Looks very good - hefty without being freakish on a stock CJ5. No performance issues with the F-head.

i run 35s with a flathead in my 2a and im happy with it. the lock-rite in the rear helps immensely offroad especially in the mud and snow. I dont know why but my cj5 sucks offroad even with new 31s its open diffs and has a hardtop.

What about the ol' narrow ss 34x9. Love em. Deepest tread I can fit. 27/32. Snow, rock, mud, whatever. Digs right through in low! Easy enough to pull. She reaches close enough to 55. They even like to stay on the wheel at 6lbs under heavy stress. If you can still find them that is....
