A member asked me photos with details to make a windshield similar to mine.

In France we call this "tropical" because it is used for hot climates. The purpose of our friend is to open the windshield without putting the windshield down, because when down the police cannot read the informations sticked on the glass.

It is quite difficult to make photos, it is from an iPhone.

But it is easy to see the principle. Of course better to find one direct ready, but if not, it is probably easy to find an old standar windshield and to make an opening inside windshield in it.

Not very easy, the seals are complex.

I have one. I call them "vented windshields". I have, and can get, lots of pictures, measurements, etc.

    Alan, great pictures.

Are these different from the M38A1 windshields that function the same way?

When researching after I bought mine I found many people saying that the ventilating windshields were never on the m38a1. only on civilian cj5, and even that was a rare option almost solely intended for export vehicles. Although can sometimes be spotted in the US. Also these ventilating windshields are shown in my reproduction Civilian jeep cj5 parts book.

I've never seen an M38A1 that did not have one unless it was changed out for a civy one.

Art, the windshield on a M38A1 and a Venting windshield both have split glass. From a distance they may look similar.

As far as I know, on the M38a1, it was rare for them to come with a vented windshield. It was a used more often on the military export's and was an option on the cj5 and 6's. Not very common in the US. Much more popular in the other parts of the world.

As far as the split glass, I believe all vented w/s had them. If it does not, I would think it had been replaced with a solid piece. When mine came apart, it was rusted in the center and I thought about removing the center and changing it so I could use one piece of glass. This could be done very easy.

Here is the link to mine http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/showthread.php?49234-Detail-Picts-of-vented-windshield-needed/page3
