Would my 1960 f-134, 5.38s with OD and 235x85r16 cooper discoverer at3 on 16x6 cragar 69 wheels, black diamond 2.5in lift be exceptional on the highway. I do most intown driving but my 500 acre farm is 2hrs down the highway. I heard all the stories about people using heavy bfg 33x10.5 on the f134 with od but to me I think that's too heavy of a tire. With my setup I have calculated a 26lb rim and a 43 lb tire which doesn't seem like it would bog too bad to go down the highway with temporary. Would like to know your opinions before i purchase 1500 dollars worth of suspension, wheels and tires.

I'm not sure the weight matters as much as the outside diameter. A tire that size is the same as raising the gear ratio - the engine may not be able to get up to it's best rpm and torque range.

One problem with the 235/85R16 is that it's a truck tire. Most of them will be load range E.
Old CJ's ride rough enough already, without putting a 1 ton truck tire on 'em!

reason why I chose the cooper discoverer at3 which is very forgiving as a street tire when aired to 32-40psi. I wanted a tall skinny 32 that will last for ever because I may say that this wont be an everyday driver but I have that feeling that my z71 will get parked more when the 60 is on the road. I have lt 265x75r16 on that and when aired down is very forgiving granted they are Michelin ltx

What truck is the Cooper on? I think you will find that, on a CJ, you'll want to run much lower pressure than that. Certainly higher pressure will reduce the rolling resistance and give you a little more power, but I'd guess you would not notice the difference.

    Do the footprint test.

I agree, the main issue is the tire height and how it changes the effective gearing, along with the frontal area of a big tire (air resistance). I don't want to come off as a know-it-all about the F134 Jeeps (having never owned one), but it seems they are (in factory trim) right on the edge of either running out of power or over-revving at highway speeds. Lower the RPM and you can't overcome the wind resistance, reducing your top speed. Lower the gearing (higher numerical) and you run out of engine speed before you reach your previous top speed. You may be ok with taller tires and an overdrive if the road you travel is dead level...

I'd guess that a lot of owners have tried different combinations in the past, and found them wanting. Overdrive with stock-ish tires may give you all the top speed you can squeeze out of the vehicle. Engine swaps are a very popular solution.
