    33s look better imo.

Bigger than that, and they get in the way on the trails I run.

After doing the 33's I definitely like them more. They just look like they are the size that should have come on it originally. The 10.5 width on 8" rim puts it right at the edge of the tub with no rubbing. One of my next mods is a drum brake 30 for it's open knuckles and a TruTrac. And I guess 11" drums in the rear same time. I may have to tweak the stops a little to keep the tires off the springs, but we'll see!

Great Job on the project. Love the blackout lights. How did you make the black out light guards? I need to make one for my jeep. Like you, I'm not sure about the flat fenders.

Love the look. The summer top is great.

Either half of the picture with both JEEPS is very nice, combined it is great.
Does your friend sell pictures or could I get a Hi-rez file for printing?
Think my Dad would really like it.

Ahhhh that's better. I had to bookmark this thread for future reading.... right now my M38a1 is in my shop waiting for me to pull the f-head... I needed to look at this one to get motivated. Cool rig. I hope mine looks half as good some day.

Thanks. I have put probably 1000 miles on it all off road. It has been pretty reliable all in all.

I never saw the question about the blackout light guards by aallison, after I made a cardboard template, I bent a 1/8" steel plate into approximately the shape of the USGI guard on my MB and I used a cheap Harbor Freight ring roller to roll the 1/8" x 1" strap into a u. Then fit the light to it.

Mike, Thanks for the info. If you have a close up pict of the blackout light guards, that would be really great. Still love your jeep. I like the 33's as much as the 35's.

Thanks! Yeah, after living with it I too have decided I like the 33's and especially the narrower aspect. There is a pretty close up shot of guard in the thread, post #6, next to last photo.

    Mike,

Also, do you know specifically what color green your jeep is (brand or paint code even if you know it)? There are so many greens available, and I don't care as much for the period correct color…almost brownish and very dark. However, I like the color of yours with the black rims, it gives it a little flair.

Finally, with the 31X8 tires, did you need any kind of a lift for the jeep? Mine is coming a typical z-tread, 7.00 X 16", I believe.

My M38a1 was supposed to be finished this month, but we have been so buried under snow up here in RI, everything is getting backed up. In fact, we received 10" more yesterday, over 2' on the ground right now. Hope to have it back by the end of April!

    Thanks again!

You ought to be receiving a commission from Warrior Products, because I think I've been convinced that that might be the way to go on my own M38a1!

While I don't think that mine is banged up anywhere near as badly as yours was, it has several areas of rust, cracks, and crinkles, and is paper thin in some areas.

Looks great! I used WP corners on my 6. GF hates em but I like em and they definitely cleaned up the corners a lot!

The color of my jeep is late WWII lusterless OD. It came from RAPCO. The tires are 33 10.5 on 15x8 rims. The lift is a Black Diamond 3" (Formerly Warn Black Diamond). Look forward to seeing pictures of your jeep.

For me it was the most logical way to smooth out the back of the jeep without resorting to gallons and gallons of bondo as the previous restoration had done. Have been very happy with it and it does provide some extra impact protection "just in case".

I'd be happy to cash WP's checks. :)

Thanks guys. I've really enjoyed the jeep and can't say that I regret any of the mods! Up next is an open knuckle 30 with a TruTrac in it. I had hoped to do that spring break but as usual I'm behind on some other projects...

Nice job, my CJ5 looks like a relative of your M38. I could probably be accused of being a copycat. :)

I take it you did a frame off in order to paint the running gear, any significant repairs you encountered?

Finally, I like the winch mount especially the way the tow ring mounts are attached to the frame and pass through the bumper.

Thanks for the compliments. I did not do a frame off. But I did a sheet metal off. I painted the fenders, hood, and grill all off the tub. After I re-assembled it, I painted the whole thing one more time. (see the stainless screws on the wrap before second coat.) I have been happy with the winch mount/tow hook setup and like the fact that I can unbolt the whole thing and put a reproduction bumper on and it's all original again.
