Tearing down the heads to send to the shop. I was planning to do a port match and polish. After scribing the gasket area I realize there's just not that much material to remove. Is it worth it? Will I really be gaining anything? I do plan on a smoothing of the casting imperfections. I can do that with a dremel tool and barrel rolls. Can I save the money and not buy a P&P kit?

What goal are you trying to achieve? High rpm, low end torque, etc? - some people say polishing the ports can even reduce low end performance. You ask good questions - I would think it is important to know what result you are aiming for.

I wouldn't Rocky. I found that just smoothing things out was all that was needed.

Looking to better the high end. We use the jeep for vacations and are on the road a lot. Loaded down and in OD it won't keep speed on long grades. After tearing it down, I'm beginning to think what I needed more than anything was a rebuild. I think I'll smooth out the knobs and seams with a Dremel and call it good.
