A local 4x4 shop has a complete Dana 30 front axle (not high pinion), complete with tie rods, a lock-rite locker, and new ring and pinion, for $1,000. It would be going into my CJ3a, which has 32" tires and a 2.3L ford engine. Do yall think its worth it? Would be a bolt on swap.

Is it a CJ 30? Or a Modern Jeep 30? CJ 30 works. The others have the pumpkin on the wrong side.

$1000 seems a bit high with the listed equipment a regear is not that costly and a lock-rite is not really expensive either. If its got other stuff done to it, like shafts etc it brings the value clower to the asking price.

As for a cj D30, I am swapping one into my 3a. Its a better axle, open knuckles, more upgrades available, disc brakes etc.

Depends on what gear ratio, what locker, if disc brakes, etc. Some of the gear sets like 5.38 for a 30 are well over $300 by themselves. Prices have gone way up on them recently. What kind of warranty? Are they including tie rod and drag link? New brakes or used? New bearings and ball joints or used?

Oops, just re read and saw a lock rite and comes with steering parts. I'd ask about the rest. Add up all the parts involved and figure out if you could put one together, with labor, and let that be a guide. I assume it has the right gear ratio for your application....

He is going to swap out the 4.10's in it for 5.38's for me. For that price, it comes with no brakes. Going to install the newish 11" drums off my D25. And yes, it is a CJ D30, not a newer one so the pumpkin is on the correct side. Im just curious, considering how weak a D25 is, if its worth upgrading at that cost, or if i should hold out for a d44 once mine breaks

D30 is a good upgrade and does just fine to @35s depending on driving style and tires. I run a 30 with 33s and an OX locker works great for me. The D44 is gonna be alot more $ and wider (I am assuming the D30 is a NT 53" axle). It all depends on what you can do vs what you want.

FWIW - I got my front axle for $150, then rebuilt it, had the new gear set put in (4.88s), OX, Disks etc... I have @ 1500 in my front axle as it sits.

I'm going to keep it narrow, drives around rocks easier :) so it looks like a d30 is about right for my application. I appreciate the help guys! I'll probably go check out the set up tomorrow and ask a few more questions
