Body mount lift on CJA or M-38: Anyone done it?

    Gentlemen:

    I plan on doing a 3/4" body mount lift using urethane bushings between the frame of my M-38 and the body. The top of each bushing will have a thick, stainless steel fender washer so that the entire bushing is bearing body weight. The total lift height is .750". Has anyone done a body lift before on these vintage jeeps? The fitment issues appear minimal. Am I missing anything?

    yes, Ive done 1inch on my 46 cj2a. Reluctantly getting ready to go up another inch so the hood will clear the carb. Really not a big deal these light weight bodies. I fabricated mine out of hockey pucks ( I know, bubba fab). Currently looking for softer material for better vibration absorption.

    Thank you for the input. The only issue I see so far is that I may have to slightly alter the cut-out for the clutch pedal, where it comes through the floor. May have to enlongate it slightly on the bottom side. I got my body mounts from a company who retails for prothane. (Can't recall the name, but I can look it up if you want their contact info.) I think they are probably softer than hockey pucks, but I have heard of others using pucks and apparently they work. Prothane also makes some fairly tall urethane spacers as well---like maybe 1 1/2" or better. You might be able to order some of those from a prothane retailer.

    I just purchased some urethane rod from McMaster-Carr and made my own 1 inch spacers for the 3B. Used heavy ss body washers on both sides of the bushings and on body/frame sides also. You will likely have to modify the steering column floor opening and possibly the dash mounting. It will also "suck" your transfer case shifters downward and, depending on your cross member/transmission mounting, may not leave enough travel for proper shifting without some modification of the floor pan.

    I lifted my body also, used the urethanen bushings. I cut them down a little so the height with a washer on each side was not to much. Like said in other post, had to rework pedal hole some. Also where front fender mount or brace bolts to frame, had to elongate holes for fender to move up.

    Someone (4 wheel drive hardware?) made the stuff in tubes and you cut to length. Can be done but as noted shift linkages, pedals, etc. will probably require mods to the floor. Usually you can "adjust" the steering box enough to allow the body to be raised some. May have to loosen the bolts holding the box to the frame to allow some movement.

    yes, they do make tube that you cut yourself, I used them on my current jeep. The only gripe I had with them was being able to cut them perfectly straight, if not cut straight one side of the body mount will be taller than the other. Took a little more trouble but not hard to do. The nice thing I did like about them was you cut them to whatever length you want. Not sure who makes them, the tube I had came with the jeep when I bought it.

    A metal screw type hose clamp works good to keep the saw blade straight.

    I have the energy suspension bushings on my 5. They are about 3/4" and are a very good upgrade. I would say anything under an inch or so the body will not interfere with the peddles.

    A power miter saw with a wood blade will cut them perfectly. Ask a buddy who does woodworking or a small cabinet shop. ;)

    duh, Use a hose clamp. Never even thought of that, and its so simple.. thx, I will remember that one.
    sometimes the ansewers can make you feel stupid.. lol
