Starting wrangler spring conversion - shackle length ?

So you used the type of bushing with shoulders at the front and rear of your leaf spring ? I was thinking of using the kind without shoulders which are rubber that I can buy at the parts store that should fit in my springs.

 

Kinda depends on what spring mounts you are using. The YJ mounts are spaced for the shouldered bushings. If you use them and the non-shoulder bushings you will have a 1/4" gap on both sides of the spring eyes.

 

Good point there. I plan on making all my shackle hanger and shackles.. so I can make them for shouldered or not shouldered bushing. So.. what I'm trying to ask is - are non shouldered bushings a good way to go, or would shouldered bushings give me better damping or ? To me going non shouldered bushing would be easier - easy to make shackle/hangers, I can pick them up in rubber style at the parts store.

 

One thing about non shouldered bushings is the shackles rub against the mounts wearing them out and causing friction, as well as rust when they wear through the paint. I'd go shouldered bushings myself if you're going from scratch anyway.

 

Could rubber shouldered bushings be found for 1.5" eye ? Also do you use shouldered for both ends of the shackle, at the spring and the frame ?
