'84 Buick 231 to go in a '71 CJ5?

The nephew poked one of the rods through the block of my brother-in-laws '71 CJ5. I immediately stumbled across an '84 231 out of a Buick Regal for $100.

Anyone ever put one of these in a CJ5? Looks like the bellhousing and flywheel from the Dauntless will bolt on, but what about the engine mounts?

Any other problems? The '84 block has a threaded boss for a clutch linkage. Will we have problems with the linkage?

Low buck is paramount at this time. We want to get it running for minimum dollars and worry about originality later.

    Thanks,

    Joe

Simple answer is yes. Bolt it up and run it. For $100 you can't go wrong. Some 84 Hei dist were already without the vacuum advance, but even those can be run with the right research. Dual-jet carb can be run without a computer also. Don't worry about balance or such of the flywheel as many have run 225 flywheels on 231s for years without problems. The water pump is shorter on a 225 vs the 231 so they also run different pulleys up front so don't mix and match. If the 231 has power steering brackets that is just a bonus for your next upgrade. Easy to fab up a bracket that catches the two bottom bell bolts to mount the clutch linkage. Or just drill and tap the 231 block for the original bracket.

They will bolt up but I disagree on the balance of the 225/231 even fire. I've seen 'em vibrate so bad they were undriveable. The flywheel should at least be neutral balanced.
The dual jet on there is computer controlled as is the distributor. They "can" run but will never perform right without the computer and assorted wiring or swapping to non computer controlled parts. $100 IF you know the motor is good is a screaming deal but there is more to it than just bolting it in and go with this engine (unless things have already been changed).

You should be able to take the 231 flex plate and the 225 flywheel into a good machine shop and get odd fire flywheel balanced to the even fire flex plate.
