Replacing the rear and bottom gaskets on my leaky D18 transfer case. Going to use some right Stuff sealant as recommended here. Anyone know the torque values for these bolts? Can someone walk me thru the basics on cleaning the surfaces, applying the Right Stuff and torquing the bolts properly? Thanks!

not sure what the torque is. i'll look in my book and get back to you. you want them pretty tight though. as far a sequence, how i do it is, finger tight them all, then start with wrench in center and make your way outwards. make two or three passes going a little tighter each time. as far as cleaning, use a degreaser and clean really well! i degrease then wire brush (attached to drill) all my surfaces then degrease again.

Sorry for picking nits, but a T-18 is a transmission. The transfer case is a Dana 18, or D18.

Just my 2 cents dabbie7, if you use any sealent on any of your gaskets the best thing I found is to wait 12-24 hours before filling with fluids. Some people use it and others don't! I did and my floors are dry as a bone. It has only been around the block a few times with no body!!! but it still is holding it's lube. Good luck with your leaks:beer:

Also make sure you put a light dab of sealer on the threads of the pan bolts and any other bolts going into the case. Oil and gear lube loves to follow the bolt threads out causing a drip. There is one bolt hole in the pan rail that goes all the way through into the case.
