I just bought a replacement dual chamber master cylinder for my 1969 CJ5. When I am bench bleeding it I cannot get any flow out of the port closest to the piston. Fluid flows fine out of the farther chamber/ port. I do get a geyser coming out of the hole in the bottom of the chamber, but nothing out of the port. Any suggestions? Do I have a bad replacement cylinder?

Not the first time that's ever happened with a rebuilt unit, I have one sitting in the bed of my truck that has to go back for the same reason.

Yeah, seems like it's becoming much more common too...

Did you bench bleed it? Absolutely necessary. You cannot get the air out once it's mounted in the Jeep because the pedal doesn't have sufficient stroke. I just rebuilt my MC because the reman I ordered had the threads for the brake lines shot-blasted to ruination. Today most castings come from India. I have to deal with enough junk India castings at work, I'm not dealing with them on my free time too if I can help it.

FYI, my Jeep had only rear brakes for the past year. It now has very excellent brakes. They're manual, so don't ever accept the excuse that manual drums just don't work very well (except when you smear the drums full of mud).

I recently rebuilt my dual resivoir master cylinder on my 69 cj5 and had same problem. I took out piston and filled chamber with brake fluid put back together and bled it . it now works fine. some kind of airlock is what i figured
