I was walking through the junkyard today and came across an NP435 just laying on the ground. It had no shift cover, the case had a big chunk missing out of it, and the gears were swimming in chocolate milk, but there was a PTO in remarkably good condition still bolted to it, so I unbolted it out of curiosity. When I got home, I found that the PTO bolt pattern is the same as that on my T18.

The NP435 I picked it from had a pass side PTO, my T18 is driver's side cover. Also, I did not diassemble the NP435 at the junkyard in order to get the idler. I'm wondering if this would fit my T18. If not, I'm wondering if I could pass this on to someone else looking for a PTO, or if the idler is specfic to this trans/PTO combination. TIA.

The pto driven gear is specific to the transmission it is set up for. There are different tooth counts, tooth pitch, diameters, etc. What you have will fit another 435 but won't work on a t18, sm 465, etc despite the bolt pattern being the same as you noted. Common assumption people make about transmission mounted pto's is they all interchange and that just isn't so. Might be worth putting on craigslist or fleabay if you don't have a use for it. Decent shaped ones that are non reversible (don't have reverse in them) seem to bring $50-$100 around here depending on condition and application

One other thing, unless the pto has reverse they only operate in one direction because they run off the cluster gear which only ever runs one direction

Well, I have no intention of ever putting an NP435 into the HEEP, so I guess I will pass this along to someone else. Might have to post up a pic later so that I describe it accurately. Thanks, Nick.
