Doing conversion from manual saginaw to power steering. The part is the old u joint that connects the steering column to the steering box. It was welded on to the shaft on the manual box because the inner splines are gone. The power box is the same spline count and diameter as the manual box. The legnth of the manual and power boxes are the same so the power box will connect to the driveshaft with this u joint. In trying to measure the diameter of the splined shaft I come up with 5/8th measuring from the flat spot and a little bigger at the round part. I was looking at Flaming River joints online but am not sure if this is what I need and which size, 5/8 or 3/4? The power box is stamped 76 if that means anything. The pump and box were from a GM and the pump bracket mounted right up to the 225 V6. I had to convince the inner fender that it would fit and move the radiator overlow resovoir. I will lose the heater intake air tube but the heat dont work anyway. Any info would be appreciated. Oh, and I could use a rear passenger side 44 axle shaft if any one has one to part with.

Looks similar to this Jeep part http://www.jeep4x4center.com/product-information.asp?number=990192 but at that price, you might want to search for an alternative.

Supposedly tractor places have a selection of u-joints of this type.

Re whether you need the Flaming River part, maybe you could measure your shaft and/or steering gear?

Try Flaming River, Borgeson, Sweet Mfg. Or search a place like Summit Racing for Steering U-joints they give diameter size, spline count, D or double D joints, to assist you with buying the right one.

My manual stuff use 3/4 spline ends, not sure on the power steering stuff.

I get all my stuff from Summit and Speed Way - they have just about everything from and to you could need to do a swap.

Yup, summit or speedway are good choices. I also use a lot of pto joints available at tractor supply houses and Six States Distributing. Regarding the axle shaft, please put classifieds in the classifieds section as per forum rules.

Hot Rod shops usually have a bunch of different sizes of them.

It is a 26 spline and all the 26 spline joints I see are 9/16 which is too small for the spline shaft. I will call summit and see if they can get me a 3/4 splinede end. Thbanks for all the info.

I have that same bracket above the powersteering pump as you do. I modified it to fit a york air compressor. Also, I went with a TC type power steering pump and used a remote reservoir. Mines off a 90 XJ 4.0L and I made a nipple to go in the pump for a hose to the reservoir. Heres what I'm talking about at summitracing: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-340206/?rtype=10 This gave me more room between the inner fender and the pump.

I learned something new today. According to summit, you need to count the number of splines and include the flat spot. Basically, split the shaft in half, count the splines and double it. So I have a 30 spline, not 26, which IS made in 3/4". Got it ordered. Too bad I couldnt find one with a grease fitting like the old one. Steve, the inner splines are gone on the old joint. I considered drilling thru the joint and spindle on the steering pump and thru bolting it but Im worried that this will weaken the spindle. Any thoughts?
