Does anyone know anything about an aluminium top that looks like this? http://www.wranglerforum.com/f14/aluminum-hardtop-for-cj5-57066.html The only name that I could find on it was what looks like Trans Wind on one of the windows but it's so stylized that I can't be sure about the name. It's NOT a Meyers top! The doors mount differently and the back side windows swing open and are removable on this one. The one that I found is supposed to have come off of a mid sixties CJ-5 but the owner says that he had it mounted on a 1980 CJ-5! Still not sure what the story is there. Is there an easy way to tell if it fits the early CJ-5s or the later ones other than trying it (long story).

It's all in the angle of the w/s. Look at the doors of the white one in the link you posted. See how the w/s angle lays back more than on the black soft doors in the pic below?? 76+ w/s leans back more, creating that greater angle. They're also narrower across the top.

Also, a later CJ-5 top can fit an early if you use the '76 and newer windshield.

I started to say that I thought you were wrong about that because the only Sears ones I had seen were flat across the top and looked rather crudely made of flat sheet metal like this (busted up) one http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/2337475141.html.

But I did some more checking and found this site: http://www.jeepz.com/forum/items-sale-trade-give-away/26197-fs-74-cj5-aluminum-hardtop.html These pictures don't show it but the entire side with the windows is hinged (at the rear) exactly the same as the doors are and can opened and can also be lifted off after the section is open. All of the windows on this one are also much larger. I'm guessing that this one is a later model or possibly it was built by the same supplier that Sears used. BTW the Sears Jeep catalog says that their tops are shipped directly from the factory in Tecumseh, Mi. Does anyone know of a Jeep top manufacturer that was located there?

BTW I went back today and bought the one that I found. I have pictures of it and I'll post links to them as soon as I can find a place to host them. But here's a link to one exactly like mine but cleaner.http://www.jeepz.com/forum/items-sale-trade-give-away/26197-fs-74-cj5-aluminum-hardtop.html These pictures don't show it but the entire side with the windows is hinged (at the rear) exactly the same as the doors are and can opened and can also be lifted off after the section is open.
