T90 Oil leak

    Replaced front oil seal with what was in small parts repair kit,a felt seal.Is there an aftermarket seal that would replace the new(leaking)felt seal or did i miss something?

    Best thing to do is put in a sealed bearing. Does away with the problem altogether

    FYI the felt isn't there to keep oil in, it's there to keep dust out. Jeep spec T90's don't have an oil seal in there, some other users such as International did have one in the bearing cap. If you have vast amounts of oil coming out by the input shaft I'd say you've got too much oil in the tranny.

    I agree with the sealed bearing, it's the way to go.

    It didn't leak until i replaced the input shaft an felt seal.Did i maybe do something wrong? If it leaks with to much oil seems like it would leak going down hill. Should there be a O-ring on the inputshaft? I'll give the sealed bearing a try ,Thank's

    Did you put sealer or seals on the bearing retainer and splash shield bolts? If not could be leaking there. What about sealer on the bearing retainer gasket? Did you soak the felt seal in oil first or put it in dry? If dry then it probably tore itself up on start up. Never install a seal dry

    Ok here come's my not knowing. What are you calling a splash shield? I used new gaskets with a touch of sealant and I greased the input shaft and the felt seal,Didn't soak it in oil,Was that my mistake? I didn't seal any bolts. This is what i get into when trying to help a friend. We will just have to take the trans out and try everything you guy's have suggested. Very frustrated with this project so it is going on back burner for a little while.

    The splash shield may be called something else but it's the sheet
    Metal piece in the front of the transmission that guides or directs oil around the input gear and cluster gear
    There are two bolts that bold it in place through the front of the case and can leak there as well as from the bolts holding the front bearing retainer. Bottom line is the trans needs to come out to fix the leak
