I am trying to ID a Powr loc # 23321X it is 10 spline and has 8 ring gear bolts. According to the tech page a 25 has 8 and a 27 has 10 bolts but I just checked a 27 I have here and it has 8 bolts, so is the Tech. page wrong?

Consensus is there were some 27's that had 10 and some that had 8 ring gear bolts. I'm guessing somewhere down the line there was an update from Salisbury gears to spicer gears. I have seen 27's both ways fwiw

Can you think of any way to determine if this is for a 25 or 27? I don't have any 25 parts to compare at this time and have had no luck with the part number so far. R&P, Six States and Randy's ring and pinion were unable to identify the number.

the info was on the forum here somewhere
    tech or archives etc
what the Spicer numbers were for the individual units
I and others contributed to the info, but I can't find it now
I'll try another source and post up later
the carrier bearings were different IDs if you had bearings handy

Both of my Dana 27 POWR-LOKs' are labeled 22477X, with build dates 1/6/64 and 10/1/68. Both have 8 ring gear bolts.

    Herm has a kit to convert a Dana 27 POWR-LOK to a Dana 25:

You might contact him to get the bearing size, to see if that narrows down whether you have a Dana 25 or Dana 27 POWR-LOK.

I think it may be for a Dana 25. Here's an ebay posting for a 23321X that came out of a Dana 25:
