Well when I was in HS we used to take this 67 Chevy PU with an inline 6 out playing around. We would get it up to about 40, turn off the key for a few seconds, turn it back on and it would backfire REAL loud. Needless to say it blew the exhaust system apart after 20 or so pops. Don't know if that caused it on your new JEEP but who knows.

Your new rig is a nice find. I am jealous of those horns

That's the only way I can figure it. Right now, it sounds like a diesel with the muffler like that. R) When I remove the plow frame, I'll have to find a new home for those horns on this thing. :)

Today, thanks to the CJ2A page, I found out that it is an early '47 and not a late '46 as I had thought and it also has an MB engine. This thing is getting more interesting my the minute. I adjusted the clutch, and that seems better. But now, she boggs down under load. I suspect the carb needs a rebuild. I found the kit from when I did my 3A's. It comes with enough parts for two rebuilds. This thing is going to be living on leftover parts. R)

:) If you toot those horns you might get stampeded by every Elk and Moose in North America. Good find! Keep the pics coming.

Is that the place just past the state line if your head west on 90? I see that going to albany but have no idea how to get there with a tractor trailer sized vehicle.

Haha, that would be funny! R) I'll definitely keep the pics coming!

It is in Great Barrington, MA, so maybe you're thinking of a different place?

Some updates for today. I got her running real nice today. I pulled the top of the carb off and checked all the jets. All were clear, and as I had suspected, the accelerator pump was bad. So I threw in my spare and she takes the fuel good now. I was careful to leave the grease and grime on the carb too. R)

I discovered that all of the original wiring is there, intact and untouched. :) Somebody was smart enough to run a whole new circuit for the plow lights. I think the original color was blue. I can see traces of blue on the wheels and under the gray and red on the body.

I must admit I'm quite envious of your find. From what I can see that frame looks cherry.

Leave those pretty horns on her and call it "Toots".

we killed a set of mufflers by shutting the car off at speed and pumping the gas and starting it back up.

Thanks guys for the suggestions, but I'm going to call her Patina, since it has a lot of it! :)

It did backfire some when I first got it running. I adjusted the carb and it seems good now. I think I'm going to take the muffler off and try to fix it.

Today, I went parts shopping in my jeep "retirement facility" ;) and found all the missing parts for Patina. I'm unsure whether this is a good thing or not. R) I had two seats, driver's and passenger's, air filter (wrong style but will still work), my old 3A gas tank, generator bolts, oil fill tube, batter hold-down bracket w/ bolts and 3 wingnuts, and carb air horn. I didn't have an air cross-over tube :(, so I'll have to use a piece of rubber hose.

But all four are dry rotted and the rear two are almost bald. What's that get? R)

I did a compression check today. All cylinders are between 70-75 psi. Not too too bad.

I've having a problem with taking off with it. It wanted to stall even in low range. I took the plow pump, which has thin strawberry yogurt (atf/water) in it. After I did that, it seemed like it was idling higher and when I backed it out of the garage, I didn't have to give it gas. I also tried it in first. Perfect! :) I think the pump was starting to seize up with the water/oil mix. I tried spinning it by hand and it seemed fine. Maybe it was the higher RPM's? I dunno. Anyways, that's the theory I'm operating under! R)

I cut the plow frame off the front today. That thing is a beast. It must weigh about 50 lbs! I think the jeep sighed a breath of relief after I did that.

Here's all the crap I removed. Goodbye!!!!!!! That piece of angle iron that is still on there will be gone too after I do some repair work.

    But I saved the horns!

Then I figured out why the bumper was drooping down so much.

SO now I have the front end jacked up and somewhat re-aligned. Tomorrow, I'm going to weld the cracks as best I can. I won't weld a plate over it like I did on the Jalopy since this probably wont be seeing as hard of service as the Jalopy does.

And then while I was crawling around it, I was wondering why the driver's side front spring was drooping so much. Well, I found that too... Where the shackle bolts into the spring, it broke off. I'm going to try to weld this too. I know welding springs can be difficult...

Welds probably won't hold long on spring steel; expect them to crack adjacent to the welded area.
    I love this rig Nate!!
