Ok! So I push in the clutch and cant get into first gear. So I turn off CJ and put in first gear and try to start and clutch does not fully disengage. I check my manual for adjustments and I find that I have a crosstube and cable type clutch. Much to my sueprise there is no adjustment left. So do I try new cable(possible stretched) or do I replace some parts.

First inspect all the linkage pieces for wear as that is the most common issue. Next, check motor and transmission/transfer case mounts as problems here will cause clutch linkage issues. If that is all ok, then I'd suspect a pilot bushing issue or throwout bearing to pressure plate finger wear. Either one will require the tranny to be removed.
Also, another thought, check and make sure the bellhousing and transmission bolts are tight. If these are loose and can cause issues like you are describing.
Have you checked the fluid level in the transmission? "shouldn't" cause an issue but a simple check to make sure.

Has the clutch been replaced recently? I recently added a new clutch, and the replacement cable was a bit shorter than the old one. Also, the new crosstube had the arms positioned at 180* to eachother, where my old ones were offset. You can read about it here:

Its possible that if certain components were replaced they may be incompatable with the older stuff....

I'm having EXACTLY the same problem. The one thing that I did that I suspect created my problem was that I removed the transmission a while back replaced a seal and slid it back in. Along the way the clutch fork dropped but I thought I reinstalled it correctly or at least I'm hoping. I am going to order up a cable, once I can find one, as mine is kinked and like you I'm hoping that is the problem. Please let me know if the cable fixed your problem, which cable/length you purchased and from where?

    Thanks

Was it working and just quit...or did you do some work on the tranny or its' associated parts and then it quit working ???
