i have a 70 cj5 with the 225 in it i was thinking about putting in my cj7 after i pull the 360 out of it. the 7 has 10'' of lift and 38'' tires. would the 225 be able to pull the jeep with any kind of power at all, i was also considering putting it in an old sunbeam if its too small for the 7. i know many people prefer the 231 and its bigger and better but i have come to learn there will always be something bigger or better. any thoughts are appreciated

With enough low gearing the Buick V-6 "could" pull 38's, but I suspect with the work involved you wouldn't be happy. Why are you pulling the 360? Maybe find another AMC motor to put in their to replace it or rebuild it. It's the path of least resistance and I think you would be much happier.

I really like the buick V-6, in a small, lightweight CJ with no more than 33" tires.

Honestly, something that huge with a small motor you aren't going to get any kind of mileage out of. All you're going to do is make the small motor work very hard to move the vehicle and still get lousy mileage. If you want better mileage then down size the tires, re-gear the vehicle, or get an economy car. Without knowing (you haven't given much info) I'd say if you are getting truly hideous mileage it's a combination of too big of tires, wrong gearing, wrong motor, and heavy right foot. Nothing really wrong with any of these, but basic physics are still basic physics.
