Are those SM465 output shafts you were snapping off?

 

I could never afford to keep replacing and repairing stuff like that, especially big ticket items. So I guess finesse became my choice of driving styles. It IS fun to watch other folks bash their stuff up though, if that's how they like to drive. Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Me too. If you're out with "like minded" folks it's fine. Most of the folks I run with would slowly no longer welcome that kind of stuff. If everyone gets stopped from enjoying their wheeling repeatedly because of that, the person responsible is no longer welcome to come along. Costs too much to go out to the trails to have someone ruin the day due to simple abuse. Breakdowns to occur and it's an opportunity to help each other out. That's way above and beyond imo...

Maybe the wheeling we do up here is different than what's around there. Dunno.

I can think of a lot of words to describe people like that, but they're probably best left unsaid. Different folks have different ideas of fun. Breaking things isn't part of MY description of fun. Of course, breaking your junk while near your tow rig and trailer is one thing, but here in Colorado you can be many, many, very difficult milles away from your trailer, which would intensify the unpleasantness manyfold for all concerned. Who wants to sacrifice THEIR trip to help some fool tow his junk back, especially if he broke it on purpose to prove his manliness?

 

My jeep breaks enough on its own, without abusing it.

I noticed in a few of the pics you have oil pouring on the ground, please make some effort to clean it up and recycle it.

But seriously do you guys really have to bag on him because he is having fun.

 

Having fun is fine, unless you're imposing on others or causing environmental damage. There was an incident here a few years ago where a BUNCH of off-roaders had an impromptu mud meet in a marshy area, and tore it all to hell. Caused tremendous damage. It was even broadcast on a local radio station to get more participants. Trouble was, it was on private land and the landowoner had no knowledge of it nor gave any permission. Big stink over that one.

 

Not bagging on anyone. I even stated in my first reply that it's ok if you are with like-minded folks.

Just simply pointing out that not everyone appreciates that type of fun and could make you unwelcome in some circles. Simple education. :stout:

 

I don't get it how is breaking stuff fun,,,,,,,,,, other than the boasting rights of "look at what I broke now ,,,ooooo,,,,,,,,aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh,,, thats so cool".... that style is not for me thanks,you wouldn't get a invte from my group.

the fun would be to build itright to take the punishment WITHOUT mass carnage ,now that would be good fun .fixing all that is time and $ wasted ,,,,,,,

I dont get it either....even when I was young and intoxicated most of the time I never found it amusing to abuse and break my vehicles. The rule at my home was you break it you fix it so plain and simple I tried not to break stuff. This was I had more time to drink and chase women

I like looking at this stuff. No problem with seeing it here in my opinion. Maybe this stuff was broken in competition somewhere. Maybe we can learn from it. As long as the mess is contained and the damage isn't holding up traffic or the next competitor, no bags. This might be 10 years worth, ya know. I find the pics interesting and rather amusing. I just can't afford it myself.

 

I'd be down for a day of wheeling with these guys. Not in my 47.... I'd either put the 5 together of buy a blazer or something (again, money) but it does look like fun... I have friends who run on 37's and dana 44's and never break anything, and I have friends who run 37's and dana 60's with chromo's and they have half a shed full of them, snapped, twisted, so on. Think I see an NP203 or 205 up there. Stout transfer case if it's a 205. Not much more after that is "upgradebale."

You know, so far I have not brocken a thing in the mud (knock on wood). Its always when I get out of the mud and try being really carful and crawl and use that finess wheelin when I start hearing those dreaded cracking noises. To each is own in my book and I personally like going to the local wheelin hole after the local rodeo and sit back and watch all the cow kickers come down with daddies new duramax and beat the pee out of them. Granted, I would not waste much sleep, time or effort on someone who does it on purpose since I perfer to wheel when I go wheeling.

In my experience the ones who are eager to bust up their rigs are the same ones who are willing to rampage through a creek bed or marshy meadow for the sake of a good time. Not all, but some. Not to say there isn't a time and place, lets just make sure it IS the right time and place. Nobody wants their favorite trails shut down just because some reckless wheelers left a few too many quarts of oil, broken parts/beer cans or tire ruts in their wake.

I didnt break any of this intentionally and have been known for runnin the dog **** outta my rigs but i just like to have fun and dont mind paying the price to put my stuff back togehter. That trans however i did not do, it was out of my yota when i bought it, the shaft was ground on to mount a 208 for some strange reason idk i didnt do it. And on those sm465s you dont really get much tougher than those and i toasted two of them ;p
