The speedo gear is in the transfer case. Don't know what the availability is, but it's easier (once you have a working speedometer) to make a chart with equivalent speeds. Let's say your GPS says you're going 60, and the speedometer says 54, that's 10% too slow. Then you make a chart 9=10, 18=20, 27=30, 36=40, 45=50, 54=60, 63=70, and so forth.

Stewart-Warner used to sell a little gearbox that you can put inline with the speedo cable, that would let you correct for the speedo error. Look around, they may still be available, or you may find one on eBay.

Lots of things to look at in a Jeep front end. Start at the top and check everything from the steering on down. Do you have the factory service manual? The reprint is cheap compared to some manuals: http://thejeep.com/shop/TECH+MANUAL...ECH+MANUAL+CJ3B+CJ5%252F6+12V+4+%2526V-6.html (not the only source for these)

thanks!...most all my slop is in the steering box and some in tie rods and such...i did get a reprint service manual for the jeep when i bought it along with another chiltons type book and a kaiser-willys parts magazine...if work would quit running me into the ground i could prolly get alot of the bugs worked out
