So, for the past 2.5 hours I' ve been trying to install my new windshield glass/seal/locking seal with new as I'm in the process of reassembling my jeep. I've done a bit of research on here, and at other places on the net and have come up empty handed. Any help anyone can provide is more than appreciated. I have tried putting the seal on the frame first, then installing the glass, and I've tried the opposite. I am installing the seal with the deep groove on the frame side with locking groove facing outwards. That leaves the shallow grove on the glass side, but I just can't get it going.

If I try to put the seal on the glass first, I can't get teh seal to stay on teh glass. If I put it in the frame first, I cant' seem to figure out how to get it started.

In regards to the glass, is there an up/down side, or an inside/outside side? If anyone can help awesome, if not, I'll take it to a glass shop later this week, as I'm pretty tired of getting my rear end busted by a dang winshield.

Thanks rich, I've actually posted in that thread, but thought I might have better luck starting a new thread. I was hoping to draw out more responses with starting a new thread.

I had some that were a PITA and took two of us over an hour to put in, and some were easier. The last two times I did the glass in my '70 frame, it took about 20 minutes.

Try some of the old school cotton woven clothesline and silicone spray lube.
I'm trying to remember from over 20 years ago when I was taught how to install sliding back glass in new pickup trucks at the chevy dealer I worked at.

You put the glass in the gasket and the rope in the outside groove starting at one corner. Leave about six inches of rope ends sticking out. Spray the rope good with the silicone. start with the corner with the rope sticking out. shove that corner into place with the ropes on the inside. Have your helper hold the unit in place while you start pulling one rope end and it will flip the lip over the frame. Keep pulling the rope out all the way around and it will pop in totally as you reach the end. then install the lock strip.

I've always put the gasket in the frame, then put the glass in on these.
Truck windows I've done like you say.

Mike, are you doing this by yourself? I don't know where you live in Graham, but I work in Graham. Shoot me a PM if you need some help, maybe we can work something out (time wise). I just did mine, and it took me & my Dad at least an hour.

Yeah, I have been trying to do it alone. The wife's been pretty busy with the newborn, and I was given a hall pass for a few hours. Some help would be great. If you want to PM me your number I'll give you a call. I work in Durham, so we'll have to find a time that works best for you. Let me know in the PM when you're available and I'll call you to set up a time.

Do you start in a corner first? Seems like I could not find a good place to start.

Lay the bottom in, and work one of the bottom corners, then the other. Then one top corner, across the top, and finish with the last top corner.

Also it is much easier if the whole thing is laying flat on sawhorses.
