Hi.. My name is Jeff Hester and I am thinking about getting a jeep to play around in hunt out of or whatever.. Anyways I found one that sounds reasonable.. But thats to me and I know next to nothin about jeeps.. Heres what I Know about the jeep...
    Its a Jeep CJ-5
    1. The motor is a 304
    2. The front axle is a Danna 44 with Savero M/T 33" tires
    3. The rear axle is a Chevy 12 lug with Mud King XT 33" tires
    4. It has flowmasters but not sure what
    5. It has both hard and soft tops and doors
    6. And the shocks said rancho on them
    7. The odometer was at 67806
    8. The plate on the fire wall said
    Jeep Corporation
    Toledo Ohio USA
    J204751
    14 525 499
    J4F835TH73861

Thats pretty much all i know about it.. He said if i put a battery in it and turned the key it would drive off

Any info would help.. Im lookin to buy soo Throw some prices out to if you dont care too... Thanks for your time...

Really hard to put a price on this without more info and pics. What is the condition of the body/frame? Drivetrain? Any other mods? Also location would help a ton as this really changes price quite a bit. All in all if it is in running and drivable condition with what you have described maybe 1500-4000. Like I said it is hard to tell with the info you list. The axle mods alone would scare me to death, I would like to see how they got a 12 bolt chevy rear under there?

You need to use a third party photo site like photobucket, then just copy and past the image code in your reply

I bought something almost IDENTICAL off of Ebay about a year ago for $2300. I ended up putting over $2000 into it just to have something drivable. Beware the swapped out differentials, these will cause you grief if something goes wrong. Not for the faint of heart.

Pics, man, pics... Get a photobucket account to host them. That'll help to "guesstimate" the value...

IMO, I'd beware of a highly modded jeep without knowing much about jeeps in general. It depends on what the seller is asking (which is...?) and how much you can dicker with him. I'd throw a lowball price at him if you're interested but without knowing much about it, I wouldn't pay too much. HTH

    Any rust?

A Chevy 12 bolt must be wider than the Jeep. Is the front equally wide?

Maybe you make friendly with a local 4x4 club and take a knowledgeable member with you to look at it. Lot's of Jeeps could have great statistics on paper but were hammered into junk after all of the mods. And I've seen some awful scary mods, especially to the steering.

What do you want out of a Jeep? Are you sure an old Jeep is what you are after? With this economy it's not difficult to find a really nice older high mileage TJ for nearly the same price as an old beat up CJ. It's a better platform for every purpose in every way (except rear axles), in my opinion. I have a CJ because I ejoy old simple things. It's an emotional, and style, thing. I sold a really nice rust-free gold 110K mile TJ with 4.0L and new 31" all-terrains for $4700. Looked almost new except the top was fraying a bit and the carpet had been removed.

Knowing nothing about the rig, and with your admission that you know nothing about Jeeps, I'd walk away.

If you never had a Jeep before, I would pass on this one. The spring over scares me. You can run into all sorts of problems like steering and drive shafts. The diff. mods also raise some ???. They are very wide. That is just my feelings on this rig.

    JMO - pass it by.

This is somebody's idea of what a highly modified Jeep should be. Might be a good buy for someone who knows what they want, but not for a newbee.

The axles are very wide for a CJ. The entire tire is outside the fender. You'll likely have to tow this Jeep to your hunting site on a trailer.

The body patches probably cover significant rust ... bad deal.

People sell cars for a reason. Likely this project did not turn out like the builder thought it would, or the result is too impractical as anything but a project.

I totally agree , if it was maybe a grand or less and you really want to learn from the ground up, get it , but that rig has the potential of costing you some coin to make it right. what would you do with it , street, rocks ,sand, bash? you going to need a traction bar right off the bat to combat wheel hop ,,,,,do you know how to weld is a big question here.

I am a jeep owner for over 40 years. Couple of scouts too. That rig scares me just to look at it. Things look too cobbled and jammed together. Like said, looks like somebody tried an attempt and failed.

make like a bird and fly far far away from it. Spring over axle conversions are complicated things get right. I can guarantee that over 75% of jeep owners who have done a spring over conversion wish they hadn't. Keep looking, set a budget, and do your own research.

Here is a great place to gain some introductory information

Hey! I resemble that remark, actually, 5 years later I've got mine pretty well sorted out lol.

Anyhoo, that's a bad 1st jeep unless your intention is to trailer it everywhere and only use it off road. its only 1/2ton axles which aren't too much stronger than the factory jeep stuff anyway. Some of the details, look well done, but overall its a $2500 jeep IMHO.

Im with the rest of these guys. The spring over is scary. and with those axles, you defeat one of the main reasons for having an old cj5. one of the cool things about the old 5 imo is that you are so narrow and agile. seems like that would really change with the wide axles.
Over all the jeep does not look bad to me. I actually really like the roll cage. its a little higher than i think is nessacary, but i dont think too much over done.

around here id say someone would pay 4000-5000 for it. (though the seller would be asking 8-10K) give or take some.
