steering swap question

    I have a 42 Willys MB that I am up gradeing to a V6....it had a F head with a dorky hood scoop.
    Other than the V6 & T 90, it's pretty much stock.
    I kind of want to keep it original & not change things to much in case I restore it latter in life.
    I was thinking of useing the original steering box,but it looks to be in the way of the stock exaust manifold.
    Are there any headders that will clear the stock box?
    If not,what is the easiest & cheapest steering conversion?

    You could do like they did in CJ'5's and 6's and run a passenger manifold on the driver's side. They did this to clear the stock ross steering. The exhaust exits out the front and wraps under and back underneath the motor mount iirc.

    Done this with stock box for a short time, and then with Saginaw conversions.

    Great Idea!
    Would there be any draw back to just swaping sides & have them both dump forward & wrap under the motor?
    I dont think the passenger side would interfear with anything...would it?

    I've never tried running the passenger side backward. Might be clearance/heat issues with the lower radiator hose and/or oil filter. Plus you have the pumpkin for the front axle on that side. Might be able to be done but might have clearance issues.

    I forgot about the pumpkin...good call.
    Were you able to run the stock raidaitor?
    It looks to be pretty tight.
    My raidaitor is stock...pretty thick. It looks like I may have to push the engine/trans unit forward even more forward...about 1".
    I also have a brake pedal issue.
    What did you do in this situation?

    Brake pedal - heat and form to fit. Firewall - tight, I like to move the engine forward a touch so I don't have to use the BFH for body work. Used the stock rad with fittings moved on the Bottom.

    Test fit. I always seemed to have to use a spacer to move the fan close enough, but if you have a desert rad it may be tighter.

    I did a similar swap back in 1971 on a 1946 MB. It's mostly stock Jeep parts that are used but you have to allow for the lower hood and weaker drive train, depending on what's still origional behind the T90.

    I am looking for an extra passenger side buick V6 exaust manifold...if you know of any, let me know!
