Might wanna check hermtheoverdriveguy.com for your power steering conversion. He'll tell you its stronger than the saginaw and it cheaper as far as I could tell. I just got finished converting mine with his kit and commented on it in a post or thread about rear dump exhaust to make it fit. Since your building yours frame up you could mount the engine a little higher and have an easier fit than mine. Then again, I not much for telling anyone what to do. Good luck and what is done so far looks nice.

Herms kit is only cheaper if you compare buying it from Advance adapters and even then its not cheaper when you consider that AA has all thee parts in one kit and Herms is in 3 stage. What I don't like about it is how cramped up it makes the engine compartment. I want to ba able to get to anyhting on my engine with the most ease I can.

your build is looking great so far. It's worth whatever time it takes to do it right the first time . Another vote for saginaw PS

I have a manual steering box from a 79 cj7. A friend of mine replaced it for a power steering setup. What do you guys think about just doing manual steering. I've seen posts favoring one or the other. I've seen it mounted below the front crossbar and through the front crossbar.I think I like going under. How thick piece of metal do I need to box the frame in? And do i use a mount or just bolt through the frame? Thanks for your comments I do want to do it right. Limited budget.

Looks similiar. Is that powder coat or paint? Looks good. I am re-building my axles right now as well and hope to get a rolling chasis by early Jan.

Same here on steering. Not sure which way I will go. I would like to go under the crossmember as well. My understanding is you do need to box the crossmember and it gets done on both sides generally. Also I think sleeving the bolt holes seems to be done a lot. Seems like 1/4" plate is used most. I also have a PTO winch with its brackets I need to allow for.

Keep us posted great pictures.

Took carb apart Rebuid kit will be here monday.
Big question. Should I go through the engine? pulled valve covers little bit of sludge. Would like advice. My gut says i should go through it but need to be careful with the budget. Any suggestions? THis engine has been sitting in a garage for 10 years. They said it was running good when they removed the engine.

Okay, After talking to some friends I've decided to go through the engine. I was suprised how inexpensive the rebuild gasket kit, rings, bearings, and valve guides were.$232 for the whole set. Pictures to follow

Getting closer.....engine almost together[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG
Sealed power rings were great. The hasting rings must have been over-sized not standard. Have transmission and transfer case together. Hope to have driveline in before spring

Finished painting the engine except for the timing cover. Also have rebuilt transfer case and mated it to the t-86.
