On my '69 CJ5 I'm wanting to switch from 10" to 11" front brakes and I'm wondering what year donor vehicles will work? Would parts from Cherokee work or just jeeps? I'm not sure what model the stock front axle is.
This is my first jeep project so I'm kind of lost on what parts will interchange or what will work the best.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, Tom

The easiest donor is a later CJ with drum brakes. Front drums were phased out in the late '70s, but from '72-78ish will bolt on. Disks were optional in starting in '77, so few CJs from those years will have drums, but all from '72-76 will.

Another possibility are early Wagoneers or J-trucks with 5-lug hubs. Early Broncos are another possible donor. There were lots of Ford products that used the 11"x2" Bendix brakes (the type you want), but to use these you will need to machine the backing plates with a larger center hole and new bolt pattern. If you can do that, '60s Ford F-100s are a possible donor. Some Mercury cars can be donors too, if you can machine the backing plates.

You can buy ready-to-go brakes for about $300 an axle, as I recall. http://pwpinc2.qwestoffice.net/prod_brakes.htm Other places sell similar setups.

When Ryan runs out he buys them from R&P, so does Herm.

I am pretty sure the 11x2's I put on my 69 were from a 64 or 65 Jtruck (this was 35 years ago). I bought new drums for the installation.

Sometime between now and Christmas, I am going to take some 11" drums off of a '73 Dana 30 front axle to put discs on it. If you can wait a bit, I'll sell you my hardware for a deal.

Sure I'll wait to hear from you as I'm in no hurry. Just let me know.

    Thanks, Tom
