Is there an alternative carburetor to the Rochester 2G that does not require a manifold change? I would like to have a back-up to use on my 225 Oddfire.

I've been researching this also. Apparently the dirt track guys like using those rochesters (most rules dictate 2 bbl carb) so they have created a farely inexpensive adapter to use the rochester on there motorcraft pattern intake. So, it works the other way also. I think I am going to find the simpler, better offroad Motorcraft for mine.

Now I have two stock intakes. One from the 85 is aluminum and has a wide bolt pattern. I need to find a cheap motorcraft and see if it bolts up. Of course the 71 is the skinny bolt pattern. The base plate for the 85 is almost like an adapter as they were still using the Rochester, just a crazy 80's style adaptation.

Now also because of the dirt trackers there are plenty of aftermarket (Holley) 2Gs available.

After building/owning/ running 2g's for 12 or so years, I don't understand why you'd want to put a Motorcraft on it, but that's just me.

I agree, I haven't drove my jeep much with the 2g but it worked great when I ran it. And that was after it sat 10 years with no gas in it. All I ever hear on this site it that the 2G is the best all around carb for the 225 and I agree.

My 67 came with an Autolite carburetor and an adapter by Mr. Gasket. Luckily, the Rochester was under the seat complete with the little aluminum tag that told you the pedigree of the carb.

Unless you swap to a 4 barrel and new manifold, I see no reason to change the 2G.
    just my .02¢ though, YMMV

Thanks for the good information. I had some problems with my 2G and sent it off for rebuild but still have problems. I like to have a two copies of everything (don't tell my wife) so I can rule out things. In this case it looks like I'd want two Rochesters. Where can I buy #2?

If you haven't already then put a wtb ad in the classifieds section. There is a place that sells rebuilt units but I don't remember exactly who. Hopefully someone will chime in with the info. I have a spare but I ain't selling:)

I keep a complete manual choke unit on the shelf, except it doesn't have the same jets I normally run. I only have one set of 49's. I have two boxes full of 2G parts.

Give me an education. What models can I find spares on. I wouldn't mind have a spare or two myself.

I know that there is an issue with the width, so all GM's will not look.

I bought a cheap adapter and dropped a holly 350 cfm on mine
took me a few tries to tune it right and now it runs fantastic, but I will admit it took a bit of tuning and most guys would have sent it back before getting it right

I like the Holley 2bbl a lot. Ran a 500cfm for a while. Very easy to tune and work on. The 350cfm would probably run well on the 225. I've run 2g on a variety of Chebbys and the 225. I seem to be constantly rebuilding them, fiddling with the floats, etc. I know I learned the hard way not to buy the standard FLAPS rebuild kits, but I guess that goes for any carb. I guess good 2g to good Holley 2bbl/MC2100, my vote would probably have to go toward Holley/MC2100.

Just ordered a nice shiny newly rebuilt one off the internet. Now to go see what 26" of rain in four weeks does for the trails in the Mississippi Delta.

Whatever FLAPS sold me - I don't recall the brand, it's been a couple years since the last one. I later learned that Holley does a Marine 2g that might be worth a look.

Thinking some GM 250 straight 6 might be an interchange option. I know I've seen them with unibarrel, but have also seen trucks with the 2 barrel. Should be pretty close to the 225 in jetting and venturi sizing.
