need to know the best place to get a GOOD hub puller for the rear hubs on my 61 CJ.
I used the local auto parts before but their's is currently stripped out.
I like the kind that bolts to the wheel studs.
    Thanks

The first time I needed one the rental place had one. A couple of years later they couldn't find it so I bought one off e-bay which was around $70 but was a quality unit.

That's the only kind you can use if the drum is still swaged on to the studs...

For your consideration, if the hub you are pulling is a 5 bolt pattern and the hub is really tight on the axle you can ( and likely will ) warp the hub with a 3 point puller, A three point puller cannot evenly distribute the pressure on 5 studs like it can for 6. Granted the key thing here is how tight the hub is on but use caution, If it does not start coming off fairly easy right away stop and find a five point puller.

I highly recommend finding a puller with 5 fingers/arms for the 5 bolt hubs.

The good pullers have an area built in on the end of the pressure screw that when pressure is applied you can pound on with a hammer and will allow some distortion or mushrooming without damaging the puller. The idea is to put some pressure on with the puller, pound on the end with a BFH and then add some more pressure, pound some more, add a little more pressure, etc. The impact or shock from pounding with a hammer helps loosen the bond in the taper between the hub and axle. This works with tie rod ends, ball joints, tapered axles, etc.

I've used this method for well over 20 years with very good success.

The passenger side on my last effort was so tight that I had to use heat to get it off. The driver's side came off with little effort.

Thanks to all for the grat suggestions. I pickd up one with the 3 arms that bolt to the wheels studs. A few swings of a big hammer did the job.

Looks like an "oil field puller" I used in Farmington NM many years ago.
16 or 20lb sledge hammer, 10 ft of chain, really big guy to swing the hammer (like 400lb) and 2 or 3 more people to hold the jeep in place.
    It worked in a pinch!

This is my homeade job. My buddy is a proffesional welder and a really nice guy. He threw this together in less then an hour for a couple beers, with stuff that was laying around. The diamond plate is well over half inch. I cranked it on, hit it with a sledge, cranked it on, hit it with a sledge. The over half inch diamond plate still warped a little, then it shot off like a bullet.
