Can anyone recommend a source for a between-the-seats console for a '75? I would prefer one that has a place to mount a radio, is weather-tight, and locks securely. JC Whitney has one but it is not what I am looking for.

    Thanks

Look for a used Tuffy Security Console on Craigslist, E-bay, or your local 4x4 Web sites. They are exactly what you describe, powdercoated, have a cushioned top, and very secure. Go with an 8" wide version. The 10" wide version may be hard to fit in an Early CJ (I have both sitting in the garage, bought one for $100 plus shipping and the other for $125 and picked it up). The 10" version will most likely be mounted in the rear as it is really quite wide. Another option is to build one from an ammo can. Many members here have done this with great results! You might do a search or check out the builds or fabricators sections also.

Edit, Both of the ones I purchased have a lockable spot for your standard style removable face radio built in.

The Tuffy is a damn tough unit. I love mine, total peace of mind about my electronics and personal stuff when installed properly.

sorry for reviving an older thread, but I'm curious if the Tuffy consoles fit these Jeeps with the 'wide' driver's seat bracket, and the narrow well area next to the driver seat?

If it will fit a '74 with bucket seats, it will fit a '75 with bucket seats. There's only one seat bracket configuration for those years.

cool thanks, seems like that's the only way for me to have a radio compartment in the future, overhead to the full cage would get tricky due to center bar height.

We had to modify the way the Tuffy mounts a little bit. You also might want to get seatbelt extenders. It's a pita to get to the seatbelts once it is in.

Quick question on this as I was looking into doing the same thing. Timgr I understand the seat brackets are the same, but does it fit with the toolbox under the passenger seat. I looked at my floorboard and I don't think there is room for it. Haven't measured though, but I would guess that I would have to go with sleeves on the drivers side in order to make it work.

The Tuffy units I have have two holes on each side of the storage compartment to bolt a strap to. This is to hold the seat belts up so they don't fall down beside the seat/console and are still accessible. I haven't tried it yet as I haven't installed them yet so can't comment on how well they work.
