I am looking to rebuild my transmission and transfer case. But before I purchase rebuild kits I need help in identifying what they are. I have been told several different things so I would like to make sure I order the correct kits. It is a 74 CJ 5. From the VIN I have determined it origannaly had a 6 cylinder. Currently it has a 304. I cannot find any markings the transmission, maybe after I pull it I will know more. The transfer case has the following tag on it:

    DANA
    300596-95
    5351085

    Attached are pictures of both..

What are the cast-in numbers on the side of the transmission? (on the case)

The pictures show a T-15 transmission and a model 20 transfer case.

    timgr,
I cannot read the cast numbers on the side. I have not removed the transmission yet. I am still driving the jeep.

    nickmil,
Thanks for the info. I thought the transfer case was a dana 20, but the transmission I wasn't sure if it was T15 or T14.

Nick, that's impressive that you can ID the T-15 from that photo. :tea:

To Gn, you have the factory drivetrain for a 304 Jeep, '72-75. Maybe someone swapped a title from a 6-cyl Jeep,? What's your VIN? Have the motor mounts been changed?

    timgr,

The VIN #J4F835TA56210, I believe that this will indicate a 6 cylinder. One of the motor mounts to the frame has been cut and welded.

    Thanks.

Yes, that's right - 6 cylinder engine, 258 cid 1V carb. Apparently it's been converted.

Let us know how it goes. I would take everything apart and inspect what I had before ordering any parts.

O.K. I now have the casting numbers from the transmission.

    13-07-065-901
    W-G-01V

Just got on Novac web site and indentified it as a T-15. Will update after the rebuild.

    1307 is a T-15.

It's "W-G DIV" as in Warner Gear, division of Borg-Warner, Inc.
