Can't be any worse than a V8 Chevy ... and that's been done lots of times. Novak has some discussion about the SBC.

I think you'll have to notch the firewall to clear the distributor if you do not move the crossmember.

Mine has a 350 in it. I did not do the swap myself. I swapped in a HEI and had to hack up the cowl/firewall alot for it to clear. I will post some pics of what my mounts and all look like tonite.

I would appreciate that. Would you also look at the trans crossmember and see if it was moved and if so, by how much

You can also use a small bodied distributor like those made by MSD for firewall clearance. We fit a 400 sbc in a 3b using the short water pump and brackets and an MSD distributor with no firewall mods.

I helped a guy position one in a 3A - like Nick said, he used a small body distro and a short water pump. We also put a SM465 and Saginaw in so moved things all around. Like mine his shifters ended up close to the stock location (tcase ones). Since we neither one use the standard cross memeber I can not give you a number of inches.

When we got it all laid out, it looked like it would fit pretty good. One thing to remember, with a V6 your shortening the engine length by 1 Cyl, so it gives more room to work with things.

If I had the 420 adapter it would be since I have a 420 available. No, just a 4.3 mated to a T90 in a 2A. Would like to rough in the mounts for the engine. Would like to see how it fits and get an idea about whether or not I should move the tranny. If I don't have to move the tranny, I can do the mounts this weekend. If I do, then I have to make some space in the shop (been working in the barn).

if you have the adapter to mount the 4.3 to your t-90 then just bolt it up and fab your motor mounts. my grandfather did chevy v-8 conversions to alot of flatfender jeeps, including his 2a and my 3b and my uncles mb. all 283 chevy v-8s with stock t-90s. if you have to recess the fire wall alittle then do it. but you shouldn't have to move the tranny. IMHO. oh ya and take pics im planning on the same swap.
