Brand new T90 unable to shift to 2nd or 3rd [RESOLVED]

Well I just got my replacement T90/D18 from Herm and installed them over the weekend. I got everything together, greased, and oiled but after putting the shifter back in I came to realize I could not shift to 2nd or 3rd. I pulled the shifter back off and tried to move the 2 collars the shifter engages but only the rear collar and attached gear moves. The front collar seems seized or jammed somehow. On the old one I can freely slide both collars back and forth. The transmission didn't come with any special instructions for removing any kind of plate that might prevent it from moving. Any ideas what might be causing this?:? I REALLY hope it's a simple thing I'm not seeing... Thank you for any feedback!

Logical thing since you got it from Herm would be to contact Herm to see what he says. It could be something simple or could be a warranty issue and should be worked out with him vs. posting an issue on the internet. Not trying to be mean, but having been on the other end I would expect the same courtesy from my customers.

Did you happen to check the tranny operation before installing? When you say frozen, did you reach in and try to turn the shafts, etc to get the collar to move?

Sometimes, if a tranny is new ad tight, you have to push the clutch to shift.

I am sure in the dark on this one. I had an e-mail that a T-90 was not shifting, I e-mailed and told him to check to see if the synchros were stuck and have not heard back, tried calling the other day but he doesn't answer the phone. I am curious where the comments came from because they were not from me!!!!!
Anyone that has a problem with products or services from a vendor needs to contact the vendor directly to find out how to solve a problem. The the person needs to be available to try to solve the problem.
All derogatory statements do is make bad blood which doesn't solve anything. There are too many people and shops out there that do shoody work and don't stand behind their work than try to create problems for those of us that are continuing to try to help the ones that are uninformed and lack the knowledge of those that are informed and work with it everyday.
I am going to go and play in the snow and let my machine take the calls.

Herm, I did not come here to complain or trash talk you in any way. I was in a truck accident earlier this week and my phone was broken so I can't call/receive calls and I've been busy getting things sorted with the insurance company (still have no means of transportation). It is my priority to call you this weekend once I get the phone replaced. I didn't mean to stir up anything here. It was just way too late at night to call you the night I posted this and I figured I would ask in case it was a simple thing other people have experienced before. I apologize for any misconceptions or hard feelings here.

That's exactly the way I took your original post. I, for one, am sure sorry to hear of your misfortunes and hope they work out for the better for you.

x2. I didn't take the orgional post as you were complaining about Herm. Just that you had an issue that might be somthing simple to fix and you wanted to post up here. At least to me it didn't come across that way.

We need some monkeys monkeys monkeys here.

Thanks for clearing this up. I understand where Herm's coming from too though. I'm sure it's happened before to him with people who weren't so understanding or polite, I know prior experience tends to color how one interprets a post like your first one from my own experiences.

UPDATE: I wanted to make it known that this issue has been resolved! After some conversation with Herm he determined that the syncro ring was not rotating enough to allow the collar to slide into gear. They were a bit difficult to rotate. I spent a few days rotating the syncro gears back and forth and they started to get nice and easy to rotate. Today the collar was finally able to slide into place! Now I just need to get the OD moved over to the new T-case. Thank you for the feedback everyone and thank you Herm for getting this sorted out.

glad to hear it wasnt a major problem . I recall when i was putting my top plate on my tranny i put it on the first time and it wouldnt shift. i took it off to see what was up and realized the sliders were jammed up. When you put the top plate on you have to make sure the tranny is in the same gear as the shifter. it can go together even though they arnt in the same gear and things get jammed up.
