I finally rolled my CJ5 into the shop, and am starting to rip into it. First task is to strip it all the way down to have the frame sandblasted, then I'll start putting it all back together. As far as the drivetrain goes, I'm planning to dump the 4cyl in favor of a 225 V6 with a SM420/465 and D18 with a Warn overdrive. I've got everything except the transmission, and am wondering what I need to know about the engine mounts for the two different engines. I'm very comfortable with cut & fab work, but if there's some combination of stock parts I might choose to go that way.

So they ARE entirely different mounts? That's really all I needed to know I guess. Thanks, I'll just make some new ones.

Take a look at the new Novak ones - they give you some adjustment even after you have it mounted. Came in handy when I put my SM465 in to allow a little tweekage :)

Thanks, I hadn't seen those. Not a big fan of bolting brackets to brackets to brackets though.

If you don't find them on this board contact R&P at 503-557-8911 in Oregon City, OR. They have a set of stock V-6 frame mounts that have been removed from a donor frame and have the rubber mounts with them. Don't know what they want but can check if you want. Being as you're in Oregon shipping shouldn't be too bad.

Thanks! That's really helpful. I've never even seen what the stock V6 mounts look like. Does anyone have a picture handy? Maybe from one of the build-ups or something? Is it a flat-style insulated mount, or something better? Do the stock mounts hold-up well? I'm thinking I might just make a set of leafspring bushing-type mounts, but I'll give that place a call if the stock mounts work well.

Let's talk about engine LOCATION now. It would be helpful to know where the stock (225 V6) engine was located (front/back, up/down, side/side) before I get started.
