i really want to be sure before i spend some money
going to rebuild the trans and transfer case. t86, dana 18, 225v6
everything i have read says the t86 and t90 are the same except for the gear kit

and every bit of looking i do for a t-86 rebuild kit pops up a t-90 rebuild kit but i havent seen any of them come right out and say they will work on a t86.

i am assuming they are the same:?

I am rebuilding them due to some funky rattles that come and go, i'm the type of fellow that would rather spend the money and do it all while its out and easy than have the next weak link break when i really need it.

I don't know much about them but here's Novak's blerb in case you haven't seen it http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/t86.htm.

If still in doubt, I'd call HermTheOverDriveGuy. Note that he's been really busy lately so be patient if your call is returned in order :)

I went all through novak prior to posting, as well as searching for stuff on the ecj5 forums

i see they say they offer a t86 kit but when i click products>transmissions>parts there is no t86, just t90

i planned on ordering from herm, but i was figuring i'd get a few answers prior to placing the call

Without looking at the part #'s here's what I know going from memory. The T-86 input bearing should be same as the T-90 as should the counter shaft and pilot bearings. I want to say the blocking rings are different. I know the rear output bearing is different as the T-90 used a smaller output bearing than the T-86 as the T90 used a small hole input transfer case behind it and the T-86 used a large hole with a housing pressed in the back of the transmission neccessitating a different bearing. The T86 front bearing retainer used a pressed in neoprene style seal whereas both the long and short shaft T90 used a felt seal.
