Hello all, I am excited to be a member of this community, so much knowledge and help it's awesome! Onto the good stuff ( Ill have pics up tomorrow)

    73' CJ5
    258 I6
    Single bbl carb
    HEI already done
    2.5" lift
    33" tires
    Black
    Bolt in roll cage
    3 speed trans.
    power steering
    4 wheel drum

    got it for $1700 bucks.

It runs awesome! fires up at the first push of that button(except when it gets hot, then it doesn't like starting) Vapor lock maybe? or is this one of the notorious reasons everyone switches to the 2100 i've been reading about? Other than that no knock or tapping.

First thing i found that i need to take care of, is theres a nice crack in the frame so ill try to get that welded up tomorrow. than, that's about it. just dialing it in mechanically. i don't see the reason to upgrade to the 2100 unless its the reason it wont start while being hot. Im one of those, if it ain't broke don't fix it people. So I plan on leaving it stock, however my buddy just informed me he has a t-18 granny gear with bellhousing and herst shifter just sitting in his garage that i could have..that's def tempting but I dont think itll help me where id like help(on the freeway). also a warn 8k wench he'd let go for like $200. so other than those couple things, fixing the gauges(i think an actual real life monkey escaped from the zoo and wired up the fuel gauge and sending unit and speedo. ) I think this thing is amazing, and I feel like i've found some buried treasure.

Look forward to endless hours of reading, and contributing, and spending, and cursing, and enjoying.

EDIT: As far as being a mechanic of any sort...on a scale of 1-10 i'd give myself a 3. So im excited to jump in start reading and start learning, I plan on doing as much of these repairs and upkeep myself as possible. With all that info out there, i think the only thing would stop me is not having the proper tools. But I haven't found anything I can't fix with a butter knife :)

    Welcome from SE Texas.

I would doubt its vapor lock, it would be more symptomatic if that were it.
I would bet its related to the choke. Check to make sure its opening all the way up.

Can you get it to fire, just with more effort, or will it not start at all when its hot?

    How bout them pics?

You'll find tons of great resources here and elsewhere.
#1, get a FSM (Factory Service Manual). There are multiple posts here with links to sites that sell them.
    Best investment you'll make.
If you can read, and you're patient, you can conquer most everything. Take your time and ask questions.

    Welcome and good luck.

Thanks for all the welcomes and replies, appreciate it! Indeed, after my jeep refused to start the other day on a hot day. I took my air cleaner off and checked the choke it was not opening. A little carb cleaner and some work and it opens up now. It's needed some spray start to get her fired up(maybe i was flooding it). I put some water hose around my fuel line for extra insulation since my fuel line is draped over my valve cover. So far I haven't had any more issues with hot starts. I'll keep you updated...also I went ahead and redid my exhaust from the manifold back. The persons who owned it before it, had a questionable muffler on there and it was ran outside the frame, so I put a flow 40 on there and had it ran inside the frame rails. Still waiting on my buddy to weld of the frame for me, then its on to making the smaller improvements.

Aside from going through it and checking/replacing all the oils and relubing the chassis.
    Planned fix/updgrades
    1) Fix frame
    2) 4 point harnesses(already gotem just need to put them in) I assume I just drill an anchor point into the bar that runs along the back of my seats, then use the stock belt anchor points?
    2) T18 swap
    3) New tires(these ones are about shot)
    4) Hmm..suggestions?

I'd suggest removing that leopard print stuff on the dash. Unless it feels fuzzy, then I'd keep it.

Nice jeep to start. The seats look like they lean way back. Do thay or is it just the pict.
