I have a 67 cj 5. As I drive down the road the wippers turn on and off when they decided too. I know I have a short some where. I was wondering if anyone can point me to a diagram so i can make sure it is wired right? The motors have three wires coming off of them on the same side.

    Re: wind sheild wiper problem

I have looked and know looked again in the tech area. What I find is for a 1971 and is not as detailed as I need. I am not very electronic enclined... I know one of the wires is hot and the other the ground and I guess the other is to have them both work at the same time? On this project I have already had to re-wire several things and am wanting to see if why I am having my problem could be that they aren't wired in right....They also get really hot when they are on. Should this be happening ??? This is also why I wonder if they are wired right.
Thank you in advance for your help,

    Joe

    Joe,
The motor may get warm, but I don't think it should be getting hot - could be a bad motor or as you suspect, incorrect wiring. Try doing a search for "wiper motor wiring" - you'll get more information than you want, but the answers are there. From what I've read, the three wires could be (+) hot, (-) ground, (s) switch - if this is a single speed motor. Sorry I can't help with the wire colors on your motor - I'm using an aftermarket type (cheapo). I would disconnect all wires and test the motors separately. Hopefully someone will chime in with a good test proceedure. :)
If you have a two speed motor, then there could be (+) hot, (-) case ground, (s) low speed, (s) high speed. In either case, the hot is used for the self park feature.

It sounds like you have 2 single speed self parking motors. Best way is if they are wired and fused individually with separate on/off switches. One wire for each motor will be hot all the time and that is the self parking feature. The others would be hot from the switch and the ground. The little motors will get warm when on but shouldn't really get hot to the touch.

I've got one for a Generic V6 Jeep here: http://www.earlycj5.com/tech/electrical/225V6_Wiring_Diagram_SVG.php

I think you were looking at the Renegade II wiring diagram possibly?

Not as detailed? There isn't much detail to these wiring harnesses. The diagrams are accurate, I can attest to that. Everything is there.

    nickmil In mothballs.

If you have the bottom mount wipers the wiring for the motor is identical from '67-'75. The wires are not for ground, the ground is through contact in the case of the motor to windshield. I'd add a ground wire to the body by the way. The three wires are for high speed, low speed, and park. I don't remember off the top of my head which color is for which, but a search should help there. Nickmil

I made the assumption the JEEP in his avatar is what he's talking about, which has top wipers. ;)
