I know the Novak kit for the Spicer 18 is almost a must due to their hardened intermediate shaft. What about a rebuild kit for a T90? Will one from Krage last? Or should I fork over the cash for one from Novak?

    thanks,
    evan

I think I used one I bought off of eBay when I rebuilt mine. Can't really say that the parts in it are good or bad however, as I've put zero miles on it since getting finished.

I bought mine from Novak because of the hardened shaft, but I think Herm can include the Novak shaft in his kit.

I treat Omix-Ada parts like HarborFreight tools; OK for some stuff, but not for critical items. YMMV. ;)

Herm will sell you a rebuild kit too. I expect he would be cheaper than Novak, and he will screen the parts in his kits for quality. If you want to keep costs down, buy a small parts kit (thrust washers, needles, seals, sometimes gaskets), blocking rings, and source the bearings from a local bearing house. I expect Herm can also sell you a 2nd gear if you need it (if your transmission pops out of 2nd on decelleration).

    hth!

I'm new to the forum and to the willys jeep but so far I'm enjoying every minute of it. I just pulled the transmission and transfer case out of my 2A last night. I'm planning on rebuilding the seals in both of them and the transmission jumps out of second gear when you let off the gas. Does this mean I need to install a new second gear? Also who is Herm? And can I buy parts from him?

Yeah, usually. The bushing inside the gear wears out, and this lets the gear skew on the shaft on decelleration. This pushes the gear and synchro collar apart, and it comes out of gear.

What Timgr said. Also check the 2-3 synchro assembly real close. The teeth inside the slider wear and will cause the same problem. Also check the teeth on 2nd gear where the slider meshes with the gear. Nickmil
