My t-case shifters are loose. They keep slipping out of the notch that is in the shifter rods. Is there some kind of spring or bushing that hold these in place?

Sorry for the stupid question. I'm learning as I go

assuming we're talking about a d18....mine has clips that space/hold them in place, as well as the unit that they slide on that locks them in place. One of the units I have were missing these clips and it had the same issues....I'm sure others will chime in with pics/drawings:)

Thd spring clips just keep the rattles to a minimum. If your levers are slipping off the rods for the TC then you need to pull them out and tweak them a bit in the vise with a BFH.

You will find there are two spring tentioners (I'm assuming we are talking T18 transfercase) the early springs had a stamped hole for the shaft to go thru, the repacement one's I've seen are slotted so you don't have to remove the shaft. If you have to remove the shaft that holds the shifters you will find that you either
    #1 lift the body
    #2 drop the tranny/transfercase
#3 drill a stratigically placed hole in your floor on the side of the tranny tunnel.
It may be your shaft is worn, but look under your shift boot and see if you have the spring steel retainers.

KRAGE has the flat anti-rattle springs for $2.49 each, you will need two. They install in between the two shifters, one facing each direction.

There are springs and little steel balls that drop into detents in the shift rods. Could be the the springs are weak/ broken...

Like everyone else said the anti-rattle springs keep them from moving as they also space the levers properly at the pivot. Also check the pivot pin as they get worn out allowing more slop in the levers. Nickmil

    Patrick,
He's saying the end of the shift lever is slipping out of the notch in the shift rails. Nickmil

sounds like the notches are worn. hmmmm

drill/tap a hole and use a bolt with a large washer to keep the shifter form slipping.

only idea i had short of pulling the case aprt to replace the shift rod.

Is part #27 the "clip" you are referring to?

#27 is the pivot pin. The anti-rattle clips are not numbered but they are the odd shaped pieces of metal with notches shown right by the pivot pin. They are thin spring steel. Nickmil
