CJ T18 driveshafts ?

    Anyone have the T18 in a CJ5 , need to know what the length of the driveshafts are ?

    Front and rear , I have a 74 CJ5 304 .

    Are the 6 cyl and 8 cyl the same size or if it matters ?

    how much lift do you have?
    Which t-18 do you have? Is there and adapter plate between the tranny and the bell housing?

    The best bet would be to drop in the tranny then measure for your shafts with the full weight of the Jeep sitting on the tires. There are just way too many variables to go off someone else's setup.

    Tranny is out of a 79 CJ7 6 cyl .

    I have the 2" rancho lift .

    The engine was removed from the jeep before I got to it , did find the bellhousing . There was no adapter plate that I seen on the transmission.

    I agree with HudsonHawks idea. Best idea is to put everything in then measure.

    Same here. Prepare everything and keep the drive-shaft for the end. I did this last winter. One thing for sure, the front will be longer and the rear shorter.

    I did the front one myself. I took a tube with the ID same as OD of driveshaft, I cutted the driveshaft, inserted the sleeve, and re-welded the sleeve. It holds well so far.

    thought I 'd see if someone had the same setup , so I could get a size . In case I run across some driveshafts before the swap.

    I would definitely put it all together and measure it. But heres what I have done and it saves quite a bit of money when having the shafts made locally. Buy a set of good jeep shafts, make sure the splines on the slip joint are good and the yokes are not chewed up, simply take them to the drive shaft shop and have them retubed the right length. It will usually cut the cost in 1/2 as the yokes and slip joint are most of the cost. Firefighter mike paid around $260 for 2 shafts to be retubed and had all new u-joints installed to boot. I bought the shafts to be retubed for $20

    Isn't the CJ7 front shaft (with t18 ) the same length as the intermediate and late CJ5 front shaft? Then all ya would have to do is shorten the rear....

    Should be but with the variables of lift, which motor (I-6 vs V-8) Whether the transmission has an adapter on the front and bellhousing depth, there are just too many variables to take a wild guess. That's why it's so important to measure after everything is installed.
