Pinion Bolts

    replaceing leaking seals on stock Dana 25 and 44 on '51 M38. looking for the proper torque for pinion bolts. Also any quick safe way to hold gears/axel while removing pinion bolts? of is even necessary if using impact hammer to remove bolts? :(

    I assume your talking about the pinion nut? If so I always use an impact to remove them, just hold the yoke with your hand and you should be able to spin it off. Sometimes if they are really tight you'll need something to hold the yoke from spinning, big pair of channel locks works well.

    so does a pipe wrench. IF the yoke doesn't come off easily, use a brass drift to remove it.

    Thanks for the responses...Does anyone have the Torque for the Pinion shaft bolts?

    I would advise buying a new nut along with seal. As for the torque. I just used the inpack wrench to install new nut. I know I should have used a torque wrench but I didn't have one. :oops:

    The pinion NUT is torqued to 200 to 220 lb-ft of torque. There are no bolts holding the pinion in place. Nickmil
