seat brackets?

Anyone know where I can find some original seat brackets for a cj5? the person who owned my jeep before ghetto welded a set of low back "Bestop" seats and they welded them at a angle so it feels like you are sitting in a recliner. Also does anyone have any pictures of some original seats that came stock in a cj5? Every jeep I see has different seats??? Did they have highback seats or lowbucket seats?

 

Junkyard, or private party. Try local sources or J&W Jeep in Antelope CA. The seat brackets were unchanged from the mid 60s (?) though 1975.

No pics, but in '72 black or beige low-back buckets; 2/3-1/3 bench seat was an option, again in black or beige vinyl. Both used a fold-and-tumble passenger seat, for access to the toolbox.

No, the originals weren't chrome!

Otherwise they look correct to me. The passenger bracket needs a pair of crutch tips to ride on the floor. There are also sliders that go with the driver's side in that era. The passenger seat has a latch that goes through an eye bolt on the floor, but that's not part of the brackets.

They were in an M38A1 parts heep that I bought, obviously not M38A1 seat frames. The tub has a toolbox, and the pass. side bracket doesn't agree with the it. Ima thinkin' those frames are off a tub w/out a toolbox.

were the pivots not bolted to the top of the underseat box near the front side?

 

Looks right for a standard CJ-5 tub with toolbox to me. The M38A1 brackets are different, and maybe the toolbox too.

 

Neither of those Brakets looked like the ones on my 1955 and 63 Cj5s
the passenger side has two brakets mounted to the tub that will allow you
to tip the seat forward and remove it, But then again the rest has been cut off and replaced with angle iron. Given my lack of knowledge, this could be a feature from a different model Jeep, unfortunately I cannot yet find my camera. I have just returned from an extended vacation on the French island of Guadalupe. Do east of Cuba. As soon as I can remember what I did with my camera. I will attempt to post some photos

PS when I returned to Tucson. I found that temperatures are now hitting 114°. So while all you guys up north were unable to work on your Jeeps
because of the severe winter. It is now my turn to suffer, I can only work on my Jeep. Between 4AM & 8AM without the use of my compressor and air tools or risk being run on of the neighborhood

Definitely '72-'75 CJ brackets. May have been used a little earlier also. Giveaway is the third leg on the base bracket that extends forward for the passenger side and the flatter seat mount portion. A friend of mine has some with seats sitting on the floor of his garage right now....

They look just like the set in my 75, except for the chrome. I have the tool box as well. The pass. side on mine is slotted so you can remove the seat to gain access to tool box

 

thanks for the info and PM's My cj has a tool box on the passanger side bad thing is theres all kinds of goodies in there but I cant get to them since they previous owner welded the seats on top of the tool box so i cant get my hand in there.. also the bestop seats I have look similar to those orange and black seats so thats good im also in search of a rear cj5 seat as well those seem to be hard to come by I have came across some cj7 rear seats but i heard they are to big and wont fit

 

Sort of. The CJ-5 and CJ-7 seat from the same era is the same. The intermediate seat is definitely the same size, with different floor mounting brackets TTBOMK. Upholstery pattern is different too. A good choice if you're not concerned with matching the stock upholstery pattern (the piping, stitching, vinyl texture etc - the color will be ok) and you can adapt the CJ-7 mounting brackets.

 

I have a '75 cj5, the brakets are the same as what was shown, mine are black. I also ordered the lowback seats from best top, the mounting holes do not line up. the seats also sit up to high to use the sliders. I used a piece of metal to adapt them to the mounts but they are still about 2" too high. I called bestop and they don't make a seat to fit the stock seat mount for the intermediate cj. you are gonna have to make something to fit them in correctly.

 

I too have the BestTop low back seats and the brackets look like they were made by BestTop too. The seats do lean back quite a bit. And they sit about 7" hight off the floorpan and I have a hard time getting my fat legs under the steering wheel. I hope we both find a solution.
