Spicer 153x for the U-joints. Should be same front and rear unless a factory V-6 CJ with the small joints in the front driveshaft. Nickmil

    Hi Alex,
The best way for you to check the size of your drums is to remove a wheel and the drum and measure it with a ruler. This is so simple it might sound like sarcasm but that's not my intention. Lots of strange things could have happened to your Jeep over the last few decades and whatever your Jeep was equipped with from the factory could be history.

    Good luck with your project!

    M38A1 with a tailgate?

thought I read some where they didn't have tailgates. could be wrong though.

The other day I caught 'The Green Berets' on tv. The jeeps they were using had horizontal grills. Don't remember seeing them that way any where else. Different model?

Lots of the m38a1's got tailgates cut into them by owners. I believe there were some Navy or Marine Corps M38a1's that were special ordered with tailgates but could be mistaken. The one you saw in "Green Berets" were M-151 "Mutts", made by Ford and I believe AM General. I love that movie, got it on DVD. Nickmil

Sorry, but that 'roll bar' does NOT look safe. If you have to miter-cut the corners, it would be a really good idea to add flat-plate gussets on both sides of the tubes where they're cut and welded.

I agree...don't know too much about roll bars but keep in mind that a roll bar (or cage) needs to support the weight of the vehicle and the extreem impact of either high or low speed rollover.

Don't forget that roll bar/cage you are depending on to save your life! wether or not you actively off road.

    food for thought:)
