I don't want to break forum rules, but my tech questions includes use of an eBay ad. Looking for blessing to use it, or to just answer my question on the side to avoid any "slippery slope" situations. I want to know if this would work in a Dauntless:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-...020QQitemZ300059469133QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I notice the rotor has the straight contact, not curved. Would this work with some kind of electronic ignition and do away with the points/condenser?

    That's for a Chevy.

Not breaking any rules. Valid question. :)

I've never matched up the Buick to the Chevy. I was thinking maybe they were compatible. Is it the BOP split at work here?

I think I am just going to clean up that one you gave me the other day, maybe make 2 into 1, and stay with points condenser. Thanks again. Hope you enjoyed the soda. As always, let me know if there is more I could do.

    Thanks.

AFAIK the distributors don't interchange between GM makes. Chevy's use the same dist - big or small block but other than that across makes they're in different locations, etc. and don't interchange.

Thanks for the Pepsi! R)

That dizzy is a whole different can of worms you don't need for the Buick. That's the first i heard of the odd fire Chevy V-6 Must be set up for strength of the crank??? That is the only advantage for a race motor. The odd fires aren't considered a build for horsepower motor because of the "collide with itself" attitude of an uneven firing impulse.

I know I've heard of race Chevy 4.3L V6s that are odd-fire for crank strength. Guessing you're right.

That distributor will fit my Chevy Marine Motor. All Chevy 229 Marine V-6's are odd fire motors. You will not find a 229 V-6 car motor that has the odd-fire crank. Unless it's race built. FYI

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHAAAA!!!!! Now that makes scence! never heard of one in a car. I read a whole report I got from Buick about the engines ( even fire ) that were being built and making big horsepower!!!! The odd fire makes no rhyme or reason for racing.......perhaps strictly bottom end motors like for sprint cars maybe????

I know some of the Chev 200 V-6's were a "semi-oddfire" motor. Not quite a true odd-fire but not an even fire either. I thought the 229 was the same but could be mistaken. Could you shed some light on this Scott? Any info would be helpful. Nickmil

Some 229s were. I happen to have one of them in my garage. Trying finding a distributor for one  There also was an oddfire 4.3L turbo motor built for the Chevy Cyclone and GMC typhoon SUVs. Good luck finding one that has not blown up since most people flogged the heck out of those trucks.

I wish I would have taken a picture of the crank and the block when I had it apart years ago.:(

It has the 4 bolt main casting but the two extra bolt holes aren't drilled and taped. The crank looks just like a V-8 except it's shorter. And three sets of pistons share the same pin. The Marine motor also has .194 valve heads instead of the .188 intake valves that are on the car motor. Its got a marine cam and the distibutor was a point type with mecanical advance. (I'm using a semi-even fire HEI distributor in it now. ) It works but I think I'm lacking a little power. When I tried to get a new distributor I was told by O.M.C. that all marine V-6's are odd-fire motors.

Sorry. This is the only info I know.
