Nobody has an opinion on a replacement clutch?

I need to replace my clutch and T.O. bearing. Should I replace it with a stock clutch for roughly $175 or go with a Centerforce I for roughly $280 (ouch)? I will never do any serious rock climbing, but if the stock clutch isn't very durable, I would rather spend the couple extra bucks now. What does everyone think?

Nobody has an opinion on a replacement clutch? Stock or performance? Any reliability issues with any specific brand?

I've never had any problem with stock clutches. Unless you've got a bigger than stock engine I wouldn't worry about it. Just like brake shoes, how fast they wear out depends on how you use them. A Centerforce would be nice, but they are big $$. You'll probably get a lighter pedal with one too. But, unless you need more grabbing power, I'd save my money and blow it on somthing else for the Jeep.

I've used Borg-Warner Power Brute clutches in my Jeep for years. No problems, not too hard of a pedal, and I've been able to get them for just a couple dollars more than stock clutch but way cheaper than Centerforce. You might look into seeing if there is a friction shop in your area also. They can frequently build a performance clutch way cheaper than buying a kit from the parts houses. Nickmil

I really don't know which way to tell you to go on it. I realize that alot of people have had good luck with stock clutches, but out of three different ones I have bought, on three completely different types of vehicles, from both Auto Zone and Advance Auto Parts, I have been happy with 0 of them. I put one in my TJ because my TOB was going out, but I should have just left the factory clutch and pressure plate in there because what is in there now, even though it works, is pretty much junk. I will be snatching that thing out and going with a Centerforce sometime next year whether it is worn out or not. Just my .02 though, because I have heard tales of people actually being happy with the stock replacements.

I believe that the easier it is to hold the clutch in, the less the thrust bearing is wearing. The more the trust bearing wears, the more end play in the crank which spells problems for the timing cover on AMC v8s.
If this is really he way it is, I would think that a centerforce might be a worthwhile investment.
    Thoughts?

I have the centerforce, pushes really easy,(like a little car), engauges smooth, and I have never had trouble with it slipping. I would buy one again over a stock clutch.

I went stock for under $100. Got it from Fort Wayne clutch, a great bunch and very helpful. Had it here in under a week!

Thanks for all your opinions. I decided to go with a replacement kit from dial-a-clutch. Hopefully that should last me quite a few years and I can always upgrade if I win the lotto....
