    Hi Guys

Anyone have a hardtop like the one in this picture?
If so please let me know, I could use some pictures of how it fits.

I have one and I am trying to get on before winter, but I am missing some parts.

    Thanks!
    Russ

This top is the same one that is pictured in the parts manual. I am looking for the piece that goes from the windshield to the top. I believe it is a long piece of sheet metal? I will post some pictures of what I have tonight.

I found a picture of the top on the 3b page. Its listed under The CJ-5 Universal Jeep, its the first top in that section.

This is a Meyers windshield sheet metal that attaches to the windshield.

This is off a Koenig half cab. It should be the same. I can get a better picture if you need one, but it would have to be pretty quick. Letr me know.

Is that Meyer hardware for a later ('76 & up) CJ? They look identical to the one I saw in a boneyard the other day, early 80"s I think. Had a fire so all the tags burned off the dash but the top and doors were ok. IIRC the early Jeeps had the upper door pivot on the w/s frame piece which bolted into the w/s frame thru the uprights of the hinges. You can tell an old CJ had a hardtop on it in the NE cause the bolts are usually broken off in the w/s frame when they removed it.

I think those were later windshield strips. Brad just posted some pics of the ones on his CJ6. I have a set at home off the JEEP right now that I can get some pics of. I did think those were period correct but now that I have done some research it seems not. The ones on the bottom picture are correct for a Koenig half cab and I would think full cab as well.

Here are pictures of what I have and what I am looking for. I need the piece that fills the gap between the windshield and the front of the top. It looks like it would have bolted to the bottom lip of the front edge of the top and to the windshield, I just don't know. I would be glad just to have a picture of what goes there, to give me something to start with. Thanks Russ

I have the same hardtop. The cutout on the underside above the windshield much smaller. It's just wide enough for the windshield, which does NOT have the lip for the soft top to attach to, to slide in. Had to buy another windshield with the lip to put a soft top on. I'm not sure what to tell you about your gap. Maybe one of the old Sears Jeep parts catalogs has something to remedy your gap and still work with the soft top windshield.

A sheet metal shop should be able to make up a piece just as you describe. Of course it'd be simpler if you can find the original piece. :)

Sorry, the top and windshield are buried in my sister's barn. Boats for storage started coming in last month and it's behind several of them. As I described, the underside of my top is cut just big enough for the windshield frame, WITHOUT a soft top retaining channel, to slip into. Your top has a much larger cutout. I don't know the reason for that. Also your windshield has the soft top retaining channel. I always thought mine was a factory hard top due to the unique windshield frame. I've never seen or heard of another windshield frame without the soft top retaining channel. The hinges are a bit different as well. They don't extend up inside the frame for side reinforcement, just a flat piece screwed and welded to the frame. Perhaps with the hardtop, the "cheaper" hinges were adequate. Sorry this doesn't solve your problem, I thought it might interest some folks.

Are you sure you don't need to loosen your windshield hold down clamps and let the windshield tilt forward a bit?

I'm wondering if that top came with it's own proprietary windshield that replaced the standard Jeep windshield?

Looks like a 'filler' is needed to connect the windsheild frame to the top.

Saw a '61 the other day ( no pics, sorry) that had the same top with the large gap at the top also. The owner had just cut a piece of sheetmetal to fit and pop-riveted it onto the top and selaed to the w/s frame with truck topper (cap) mounting foam tape. Not pretty but functional.

I believe there are a couple of people here that have this kind of top. Someone should chime in.
