Should work Sparky. It says it's been machined to fit the 14 bolt pan and if it'll fit the earlier 350 and 300's it'll fit the 225 or 231's. I'd double check to make sure your oil filter adapter/pump cover will work though as the later ones were metric and a little different. I "think" they will switch over but can't remember for sure. That most likely will require metric bolts also.
That cover requires the bolt on timing tab, but if you don't have one I have a spare You can have. Nickmil

Sparky - Timing diff will be 18deg between the 2 covers. I have a 350 cover on mine now.

What two covers? The one I'm looking at on E-bay for a GN and my 225?

I thought you weren't supposed to mix later timing covers with the bolt on timing indicator (evenfire?) with earlier timing covers with the cast in timing indicators (oddfire?).

IIRC, this is from Ganahal's V6 performance. My copy is at home though and I'm at work.

    Why not?

TA Performance lists the same applications. 215-225-231-350

I busted my timing chain cover a couple of years ago trying to replace the water pump. I could not find one anywhere. The ones I did find had holes in them and were damaged beyond use. Some guy here ordered me one from a place that remanufactured them finnally. It was wholesale only. I cant remember the name but if you cant find one let me know and I can stop by the wrecking yard and get the name. I paid almost 300 bucks for it but I was glad to find it.................

    Page 99, Para 2

"A second indicator is the front cover. All odd-fire motors have a timing mark on the front cover; even-fire motors use a bolt-on timing indicator. There is an 18* difference in the top dead center mark between the two. These components are interchangeable, so it is imperative to match parts for proper phasing and timing of the ignition."

Well, that'd make sense and go with what Warloch said about a 350 timing cover then.

No reason I couldn't use it and adjust for 18* if necessary.

That's better than having a tweaked cover. ;)

Could buy the one Steve found, it's complete and should be the right application too I guess.

*edit* It says '64 to '87 as well...
I can't see how the bolt on timing mark bolts on?

There is a little plastic deal that has a bolt and pin that goes into the cover sets the timing marks. They do work and are a lot cheaper than what I was finding. I can take pics for you tomorrow if your interested, I will also check on the carb too as I didn’t get there this weekend.

I'd be interested to see that. I've got two carbs on the way. So I'm good. One is rebuilt the other will need it.

How do you time it? Mark the damper accordingly?

That's what I'd do. You can get a timing tape from Mr. Gasket for a few bucks, that would make it pretty easy to mark 18* from the stock mark. Otherwise, a sheepy protractor will get you pretty durned close...

That doesn't sound too hard. I already set it up with 10* increments up to 40* and -40* of timing. Just paint over it again and mark again. :)

You are good - I just marked 10 and 5* and calculated the change from there. I also have an adjustable timing light :).

Pic tonight - unless I end up workin all night again.

Here are pics of the timing area - the Green one has a 225 cover - the red one is a 231 - the black is the 225 with a 350 cover.

Guess I don't see how the bolt on timing indicator works with the timing cover on E-bay still.

Yes, but that's not what I was looking at on E-bay.

I see that the red one bolts on. I looked at it. I don't see how it's going to work like that with the cover on E-bay...

Maybe there is a bolt hole there. Hard to tell from the pic for me.
