I have a 70 CJ5 with a broken T-14 transmission case (it's behind a 225cid). Machine shop says it can't be repaired. I've found a complete transmission from a '75 CJ5 that was behind a I6. Externally they appear to be the same except for the end of the pilot shaft. The '75 shaft has a larger diameter where it fits into the pilot bearing. Does anyone know if this transmission (casting number 13-02) will directly replace the older T-14 by using the later model pilot bearing. Thanks KB

    KB,
Check the Novak web site on this. If the '75 is a T-14 but the input shaft is different you may be able to swap in the old one? If the length is ok I like your suggestion of using a different pilot bearing.
What's your location? I've got a complete T-14 that I took out of my '70 that I could sell for $50.
    Good luck.

AFAIK you'll need to use the input shaft and retainer from the V6 T-14, and then it'll be ok. The two versions have input shafts of different lengths, again AFAIK.

The best thing to do would be to measure both, unless someone can tell you definitively.

Oooh, Oooh, (he says raising his hand), I can! You will need to change the input and front bearing retainer as they are different. Not just the pilot but IIRC so is the spline diameter, but I'd have to double check on that. Other than that the parts will interchange no problem. Please put in your location. Someone here may have the parts you need. Nickmil

Thanks for the replies. Yes the input shafts are different. The T-14A shaft is one inch longer than the later shaft behind the I6and the bearing retainer is different requiring a different throwout bearing. Swaping the shafts was simple and straightforward and the older bearing retainer bolted right up. Again much thanks for the experise.
