I'm trying to narrow down when in the year my CJ-5 was manufactured. If you have a 1973 could you please tell me the month of your manufacture?

The sites I've found, including that one, do year but not month. Basically 6001 is the serial number. If someone else has a '73 with serial 6100 built in June, I'd know mine is before June, etc...I'd like to try to narrow it down.

Dana, I also have a '73' CJ5. I can give you the VIN breakdown but not the month. Do you want to know the month just for the sake of history or are you looking for a specific time when parts on the jeep may haved changed?

Yeah, getting a new firewall plate made. Not a mission critical item I know, but it would be nice. My next step is to try to sweettalk my county commissioner girl into telling me when it was first registered. I'm only the third owner. Today I'll check the engine block and tranny for clues.

I'm in the same predicament for my 74. ECJ5 users can add VIN and DOM to their profile and you can search the members list for it also. Maybe someone entered a 73 already?

I have VIN sequence number 74488. My dash sticker was missing but from the build dates on other components I presume it to be built in June of 73. I hope that is of some help to you. Check the build dates on your axle housings (if they haven't been replaced). The build dates between the front and rear axles can be as much as a few weeks different from what I have seen. But at least you will be able to figure that it wasn't built before the latest dates. There are also build dates on your engine and radiator if they are original. There was some discussion on this forum last winter on some of these mentioned dates and their locations. If you post up your build code numbers on your components I can try to decipher them for you. I have to go at the moment right now, but if you need more details on the locations or can't find the threads pertaining to these subjects, let me know and I will try to go into more details.

    In summary:
    Jan 31690
    ??? 46001 - mine
    Mar 52800
    Jun 74488

There were just over 30,000 built in '73 from what I've found, so the serial numbers seem weird, but it seems like I can take a good guess that mine was a Valentine's baby...thanks for the folks that helped out!
